UPS to furlough!

I have heard the same thing about "possible" furloughs for age 60+ flight engineers. Too many hanging around waiting for that sweet retirement package that Nicholson is trying very hard to negotiate. I would do the same thing myself.
Question for those that might know...
If you are over 60, and are furloughed, do you have to retire? Or could you wait in furlough status until the contract is eventually signed with the new retirement rates? Would UPS be able to force you to retire if over 60?
Buddy of mine got "bumped" off the DC-8 panel to the 757/767 domestic. Now he has to start flying a trip once a month.

I've looked and can't find it. I have been told by those in the union that if there is not a seat for these guys to displace to, they might be out the door. It sounds like to me though, that nobody knows what is going to happen when they reach that magic number.

And I think it is also true that they CANNOT vote on any TA according to our bylaws.
