Thats is realistic base pay. Unless you whor$ yourself out to the company you will seldom fly more than 65 hrs. We sit in hotels a lot. You'll sit for 7 days and then be extended 2 days for a 5 hour trip. So you might make an extra 10 hours....and yes that is paid as straight time..no overtime here folks!
You can however plan on about $600 in per diem each month you work.
If you want to work 25 or 30 days a month then you'll make plenty of money, but its all straight time over 65 or 16 days and 4hrs a day min after 16 days. Do the math after taxes, insurance, union dues, you're whorrin& yourself out to a company that treats you like sh!t for less than $180 a day. You can make that flight instructing these days!

Yeah, but. While everything you said is true, I'm sitting here unemployed, missing the hell of the cockpit. What you're doing is staying current...getting transferable heavy experience, at a time when thousands of other guys are wishing they had something...anything. I know it's not pretty; circaidian rhythm destroying, barely above unemployment wages, and family life limiting, but the flip side is that there are others who understand the value of what you have. If you were sitting at home unemployed for a number of months it might put a different perspective on things. This is not meant as a criticism...nor justification for poor wages given the skill required. Just encouragement to enjoy what you have as much as is possible under the circumstances.

Absolutely.
My wife puts me in my place every time I start complaining about long trips and long days and blah, blah, blah...she always says to think of all the guys that are not working, of all the guys that are not doing what we love to do.
Thanks for reminding us of that, captfurlough.

Prayers to those with no job, longing for the life in the cockpit.. Wishing we could all be grateful, and not take for granted what blessings we have..
