Care to wager how junior an MD-11 ANC base would go?

How do you figure? A new domicile outside of SDF is always a good thing.

I think that FedEx has been using ANC as a pilot base for a long time.

I gotta disagree! It sucks to commute 6.5 hours to anywhere. Also until the company has the base fully staffed and the schedule rejiggered, the company J/S will be full. The housing costs in ANC for anything Momma will be happy in are way high. Might be a good time to speculate on a four-plex near the airport to serve as a ready-made pilot ghetto, though! YMMV

Default commute to ANC - not looking forward to that!

I'm junior at UPS. I could get displaced to ANC, but I am not looking forward to that. Any idea on how many guys live up there, or within a reasonable commuting distance? SEA, PDX, SFO for instance.

I hear what you are saying, about being displaced and all. As with everything, I've talked to folks that have given me both points of view - it will go senior due to the fact that people like it up there to it will go junior because of the commute. I guess we'll see when (or if) it happens. I can't control it now, so I'm not going to worry about it. Keeping the eyes and ears open...

I agree that the 747-400 ANC bid would go both super senior and then super junior. There are too many super senior 74 classic and MD11 Captains that will bid the -400 regardless, but then watch the initial bid go super junior for both captains and FOs as the rest of the senior guys wait for the initial bid packages to settle down. Then the junior guys will remain junior as more folks slip in front of them on subsequent bids.(Just like MIA).

The moving package supplied is first rate if you do hold a position in a new domicile during its first year. Check it out in the contract.

I just had a few beers at F Street with a commuter from OAK, and he laments the FACT that jumpseating on Alaskan is getting impossible from the west coast just because all the cabin seats are full (especially in the summer tourist season), but like FedEx, they're a great option for getting up to ANC.

I bet the ANC lines will look like the MIA lines, so you'll really pay a price if you don't actually live in ANC or have an easier commute from SEA, MEM or SDF.

Just my two cents

Exactly, 767, and you'll see confirmation of this ANC rumor when the T/A comes out. It will be for both the MadDog and -400.

And look for them to go even higher too, especially once a GOOD TA is signed.
