Some FDX advice...

I’m looking for some advice. I know just about every pilot out there probably wants to fly for Fedex, but I would really like some pointers on anything that might help my chances of getting hired whenever hiring resumes - and I realize this may be several years from now. I don’t know of anyone who works there who would sponsor me, so for someone in my position it seems it would take nothing less than an act of Congress or a kidney donation to one of your Chief Pilots to get an interview there. I’ve got 6000 hours TT, 2000 hours PIC 121 jet time with a Check Airman designation at a regional, but again, no internal FDX recs. I’ve heard that you hire from your corporate flight department, or from your training department, but again, no connections to even get me that far. The only other thing I’ve heard of is that if you get a full-time job at Fedex Express, they will give you a pilot interview after a few years or so. Can anyone give me some insight into this option? I would leave my 121 job in a heartbeat to sort packages for a few years if it would mean getting an interview. I know this would be putting all my eggs in one basket, but it’s a company I have a tremenous desire to work for.
As you can see, this is my first post. Frankly I don’t spend a lot of time on these forums because they tend to be negative most of the time and I’d rather concentrate on the positive aspects of a career I enjoy so much. I jumpseat on you all the time; you are true professionals, and the best pilot group I've ever encountered. Any advise you purple-tail folks could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Send me a resume and I'll bet we can find someone at FDX who worked at your regional that can probably help you.
Obviously...we aren't hiring for a while...but use this lull to get ready. If you have check airman experience it does say some good things about you...
Go to this website and my email is on it. I don't print it out here as spambots pick it up and bombard me with garbage.

Other than adding to the negativity around here with your negative comments I think you have a good plan. Talk to Albie; but in addition search this forum for Fedex Training Jobs, FDX Corporate Pilot, and Fedex Instructor positions (hee hee hee, I crack me up). Both spellings of Fedex are important when searching as we are not very standard.
Good luck.
Good luck.

My sincere thanks to all of your replies! FDXLAG, please excuse the irony of the "negative" comment. I certainly meant no disrespect to anyone, and you folks are proof that there are some really good people on here. Albie, I will look into your thread.
Thanks again, this means a lot to me!

Several folks on here can give you some insight into this option as we've been beneficiaries of it. FedEx has an internal hiring process that gives preference to its employees over external hires. Any permanent employee, full-time or part-time, will have preference for any jobs that come open within FedEx Express.
When we start hiring pilots again, any permanent FedEx Express employee who is qualified will have preference to interview for the job. Important points are 1) permanent, 2) FedEx Express, and 3) qualified. Casual employees don't qualifiy. Employees of other divisions of FedEx Corporation (FedEx Ground, FedEx Office, FedEx Freight, etc.) don't qualify. Finally, permanent employees of FedEx Express that don't otherwise meet the qualifications don't qualifiy. Specifically, if recent experience is part of the qualifications and you haven't been flying for a year, you won't qualify.
If you can land a job as a FedEx Express courier and maintain flying currency when the job opens up, you're pretty much guaranteed an interview. Not a job -- an interview. It's still up to you to pass the interview.
It can be done -- good luck.
