FF-Furlough Fodder

FF,
Your correct, what Say That Again is pointing out is also correct. UPS does not want the airline subsidiary to move Cargo if it can be avoided. SCS is that work around. UPS Airlines (airplanes) is only emergency relief and primary if cheaper to other carriers for cargo.
UPS only orders airplanes to move Next day air volume in the complete spectrum of the UPS worldwide logistics business. Reason they don't effectively pursue all the air business with the UPS assets and use SCS. That is the business model.

I am sure the next contract WILL get interesting over this very issue.

Better get out while you can.

You're right, UPS has been outstanding at handling their staffing needs (the topic of my original comment)

As far as getting out that will happen soon enough (again their decision)

UPS isn't in the cargo business, nor do they want to be.

Yes, they are in the cargo business. Whether they want to be or not may be arguable, but the reality is they are in the cargo business (SCS, UPS freight, etc).

One thing is for certain. The SCS and contractors with pilots on furlough will be HUGE issues for the next contract. Talk about farming out union work. I am sure this was not the intent when the contract was signed.

Line pilot jobs being farmed out to contractors. Instructing jobs farmed out to contractors.

I heard lots of people are not too happy with the "quality" of instruction coming from the contractors. I am sure its just a bad rumor.

Where did 747-400 qualified pilot contractors come from? Is there a supply of them hanging around ANC?
