They are being supplied by Boeing (old Alteon guys). Most of these guys are the same ones used when UPS originally purchased the 400. There are a few that live in ANC. They are doing FBS's. There are a few in Denver doing the Full Motion training. When I was there in May conducting training I was "training my replacement". The two there are pretty knowledgeable. The sim however is less than stellar.

Not sure about the ones in ANC. I know there are lots of issues. I am suppose to be furloughed in September (maybe). I told training scheduling that I was available to teach for PP 10-10/11. I was told by C.C. that it was unclear if I would still be on the payroll.

Remember we have more than a handful of people teaching that are not "qualified pilots". Not just in ANC.

I really love my job here at UPS. But the way this entire thing is being handled is VERY FRUSTRATING.

So if a guy about to get furloughed wanted to keep teaching in the sim after furlough, they would not let you and just hire a contractor instead?

I wish it were that easy around here. I think E.F. in ANC has tried. Not sure what will come of it. We have one instructor on the 400 already furloughed. I will join him in September(?). We have both applied, but it appears that is a dead end street.

I think the company wants to get more mileage out of their FQS's (as well as the IPA). These guys can work in the Training center, then go fly the line. As long as they do not exceed 16 hours of "duty" they are legal. I think this is complete BS. Have stated so. The "press to test" on this one with the FAA will be when an undesirable outcome is the result. This unfortunately is becoming a cultural norm here. It will come under great scrutiny sooner than later, if the trend continues and it appears it will.

Not really. The cost per contractor is not much of a saving over an IPA F/O.

The FBS guys are somewhat cheaper than the full motion people. But when you add lodging, per diem, travel, plus contract fees. It just does not add up.

UPS is very compartmentalized. Sorry about the spelling. So those expenses go to different departments and never seem to be looked at in whole. There is no big picture in this company.

J-
I have to agree to some extent. I just wish someone would come to their senses and this nightmare would end.

How are things going?

Sad? Sad is when you have an EB that is completely outgunned by its opposition. Sad is when you have a membership who has no idea what its EB has been (and is now) doing. The bottom line is that all of this furlough drama could have been avoided in 1990, 1995, or 1999. But the EB took a pass. It's time for you guys to "man up."

As Ted Turner used to say, "Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way!"

Sad.sad? Sad are the sour grapes of a small town attorney who was rejected in an attempt to step up and play with the big boys. Sad is an attorney who takes a case from one of the members who should have known better after a stint on the executive board, trying to change a definition of a domicile that has been agreed to and accepted by both sides for many years. Sad is a guy in a Cessna wishing he were in a Boeing

Sad is the inability to delete <G>

Sad is the IPA telling the NMB in 1995 that the FQSs were management...

That might come back to bite us, hopefully not...

IPA asserts that the application should not be docketed because the applicants are management employees
