It's not as if he was hiding behind a planter box in the AF lounge, checking out every possible FDX pilot that walked in. He was in there waiting for his own flight and happened to see the moron wearing jeans, tennis shoes and a FDX ID. I couldn't agree more with "O" on this one!!
And, I actually enjoyed the way he explained it.

Okay fine. I am glad we have a uniform cop that makes a ton of cash. We should concentrate on who wears what. Can't wait to the show "What not to wear"
Uncle.

You need to read the FOM. No matter what class of ticket you have, if the company is paying, the dress code is slacks and a polo shirt. It's really not that hard. Jeans are never part of the dress code. No, I'm not the uniform police, but I believe in being professional. Just make sure you know how "O" looks

The paradox is that while wearing jeans and sneakers you might be the best dressed person in First Class. Unfortunately, that doesn't make it right or even ok. The FOM is quite clear on this issue, and unless you're one of those guys who only plays by the rules when it suits him, why not just wear reasonable clothes and enjoy the ride. Just one persons opinion.

I personally would have said the same thing to the guy. If you are going to hang your ID around your neck and advertise what you are, then you better look the part (it has nothing to do with the dress code of the airline you are deadheading on, unless theirs is stricter than ours).
Also, It is not just "O's" job to police us but the responsibility of every one of us. "O" said it perfectly at a recent captains course - "if you are going to ignore that rule which other ones are you going to ignore? It is all about being professional!"
Yes I'm running for the office of: Chief of Uniform Police. LK watch out

sarcasm light on. How would one know who o is? Do you think o had his hat/lid on? (school girl giggle, hehe) Sarcasm light off.
Who cares. Company email is for more important things. Like when are we getting those a330's...

Tuck,
Try reading the FOM and you'll see that it makes no mention of how one paid for the ticket that they are riding on, so regardless of whether a pilot purchases said ticket on their own dime or used the company credit card, if they are on company business, which includes deadheading to or from a trip, then they should be in compliance with the policies and procedures of the company. Sorry if you just don't agree.
As to your second question, Yes, when I was flying internationally, I did call the ramp, or failing that, sent them an email with crew names and room numbers. Silly me. I always thought that that was part of my job as a captain.

Have any of you ever knowingly drove faster than the speed limit? My guess is that 100% of us have, at one time, broke the rules. Since we exceeded the speed limit are we more prone to commit murder?
I do believe the company needs a dress code. 99% of us would still look presentable, but there would be some guys with cutoffs, flip flops, and a black Metallica T-shirt that they wore in school. I'll admit it, I've worn jeans before. I've always worn collared shirts and I've never worn sneakers. Luckily, we do have the capability to choose to follow some rules and not others. While I've worn jeans before, I still attempt to fly the aircraft by the rules.
That said, I have no idea why this guy was wearing a lanyard. If you are going to break some trivial rules, be smart enough to NOT advertise. Don't wear your name tag or put Fedex logos all over your luggage.
