I am praying for snow storms, ice storms, volcano eruptions and any other disaster that will cause the UPS house of cards to fold. All the while all IPA'ers do nothing other than fly the contract: NO FAVORS, NO WAIVERS, EVER.

UPS doesn't care about weather. They don't have to pay customers for acts of god. In my book weather is a non-issue. If it snows, then the boxes get there when they get there. Sorry little Johnny didn't get his XBox for Christmas, but it was weather related.

I think they will have extra contract flights around the country to cover the unexpected.

Apart from that everything will be fine. I wish there was a way to stick it to them, but IMO peak won't be it.

It's slightly humorous to see our senior guys start *****ing when they get rerouted. Naturally the first words out of their mouth is something regarding the system falling apart.

This type of scheduling was standard at the 3 regionals I worked for. Creative scheduling is not an indication of system failure. Only when the NDA doesn't move is the system failing.

I agree that this peak will not be the "disaster" that everyone wants. I believe there will be difficulties though. I believe there will be many FQS's working more than they did in previous years around peak.

Agreed.

The ONLY POSSIBLE issue is when wx and constant reroutes leave enough crews out of position and out of time to complete flights, things MIGHT get noticed.

But I am not holding my breath ... years at the commuters have shown me that this type of scheduling reroutes can go on for years without major disruptions.

CC,

The major difference between UPS (or FedEx) and "the commuters", or for that matter, the "majors", is that unless it's "act of god" related, if our product doesn't get there on time, we've carried it for free, whereas if a people-carrying airline doesn't get you there on time, oh well, no big deal. And that aspect of this business can and will put the hurt on UPS (or FedEx), especially if during peak, the company has lost the good will of their employees. That said, companies are like that 95 pound weakling, shaking hands with the body builder. You gotta know that the handshake is hurting the weakling, but damned if he'll let you know that it hurts.

That's funny. Our management reminds me of Richard Mulligan's portrayal of General Custer in the movie "Little Big Man" (I think ?).

Once he made a decision, that was it. He never would reverse a "Custer Decision." Oops.

Why would you want financial harm done to the company? I really do not understand this attitude... If you dont like your job or think UPS is that darn bad please leave, go someplace else to work. Home Depot, Target, McDonalds, Waffle House.... go PLEASE!!!!!

As far as peak goes... I will make sure to relay your thoughts and feelings to my peers and if you have not seen creative scheduling yet, better watch out! So... to the no favor, no waiver... dont ask me to help you get home for Christmas, you can eat a can of SPAM in the DSM hotel for all I care...

Yeah we are JAing and going through the motions because we have too, but why dont you ask how many flights we have cancelled because of the JA & open time bans... you are the ones losing out, not us and NOT our customers.. it has made us better and stronger schedulers... We are doing something obviously you dont want to do.. and that is to make sure our customers get their packages...

See you in peak guys!

Well, before you get ripped to shreds for your naive attitude, lets ask a few questions.

1) How long have you been at UPS? Let me guess, you tossed packages here 5 years ago, now you are qualified for anything.
2) Have you been moved to ANC by UPS and subsequently furloughed and abandoned in AK with no job and no way to get your stuff home?
3) Unlike you, most of us left 6 figure jobs to come here for job security and a better life for a family only to have the rug continually pulled from underneath us.
4) Were you here for the late 1980's when this place was pure hell to work for?
5) Do you spend 180 nights a year on the road away from your wife and kids for a company that doesn't respect you?
6) Do you risk your life ever night on a cargo plane that doesn't have an ounce of protection in the event of a fire.
7) Do you sleep in crappy accommodations and eat unhealthy food night after night?
8) Did you spend 20 years to get to your position, often observing horrible pay and jobs to just "make it".
9) How many marriages has being a scheduler cost you?
10) How many Holidays have you missed? I mean really missed, not by a few hours but a few days?

Please tell us why you have the right to come on here and tell us to leave. Please tell me old wise one, how you plan on screwing us some more in scheduling. Please tell me what you could possibly do to us that we have not already endured.

For the record, we have some VERY good schedulers, (minus 2 of course).

JUST a scheduler. No education required. Not worth arguing with a $9 per hr worker. Enough said.
