FedExers and NWA cargo guys based in ANC, help! There will be a lot of us coming up to join you in ANC in the coming months and years, including ALL of our new hires Here is a start, but it is info from a few years ago--

Food and Drink

Humpy's (a fun place with excellent Alaska food and lots of beer choices)
Glacier Brewhouse (more fancy, but large spacious rest. and awesome food)
Moose's Tooth Pizza (the best pizza in Anchorage, if not the entire Northwest)
Snow Goose (downtown)
F Street B&G (popular flight crew esp. FedEx hangout)
Gwennies (need a taxi, but awesome b-fasts and food in general)

Nightlife

Chilkoot Charlies (5 bars in 1, and live bands 5 times a week. Voted best nightclub in America one time by Playboy mag.)
Humpy's
Darwin's Theory
Fly by Night Club
Great Alaskan Bush Co.

Tax rebate every December is how much...?
Are crash pads hard to find?

No personal income tax. Every individual's share of the state's oil money investment account should be about $1100 this year.

Add this restaurant to your list: Orso. It's downtown right next to the Glacier Brewhouse.

Don't forget the "White Spot" Cafe on 4th Ave about 3 blocks past where Blondie's used to be.

It is a greasy Spoon to be sure...........but a great breakfast or Halibut Sandwich for lunch and it is entertaining to say the least.

Shari, the Female proprietor (AKA The Soup Nazi) is an absolute hoot.

She boots out people for not "ordering" properly or if they are not patient with the slow service. She constantly states "This is not a fast food restaurant!" and she means it!

Is Wings and Things still there? I believe it was off of 4th or 5th street in the down town

Damn, i miss living in ANC. I used to live on 5th street down below Simon & Seaforts.

Simon and Seaforts is high on my list. Expensive, but worth it considering the phenomenal food.

For a great steak, try Club Paris.

Make sure you have a reservation first....it's that good.

I've had many a delicious Halibut sandwich at the White Spot and some interesting conversations with Shari. Closest thing to the Soup Nazi I've seen but she makes an awesome sandwich. I'm kind of a jokester and my squadron mates liked to go with me as I sometimes stirred her up a bit for laughs. I guess she got used to it and used to call me out by name every time we came in. I think she liked me but it was hard to tell. I've definitely pushed the envelope in there a few times but never got the boot. All in good fun. Man, thinking about that Halibut sandwich makes me really miss living up there!

Default Breakfast, lunch

Snow City Cafe close to the Captain Cook Hotel, Good food and you can always strike up a conversation with a local or another crewmember on layover at the counter.
Tried Platimum Jacks, found it pricy and abit modern metal for my taste. This used to be La Mex.

Yes. For breakfast, try their "crabby omelette". Across the street is a good ice cream shop, the "Loose Moose" or something like that. Perfect after a bike ride along the Cook Inlet.
