January 27, 2011 Tentative Agreement Highlights
Section 3- Compensation
• 3% increase effective the first day of the March 2011 bid period
• 3% increase effective the first day of the March 2012 bid period
o If ALPA elects to open early pursuant to Section 31, this pay raise will not occur (see
below)
• 1% lump sum based on pensionable earnings in CY 2010 with a maximum amount of $2,600
Section 5 - Traveling Expenses
• Effective the first day of the July 2011 bid period, per diem rates increase $0.20 per hour
o $2.15 domestic/ $2.95 international
Section 14- Sick Leave
• Time limitation placed on physician note requirement for a sick call near a holiday or vacation
period
Section 15- Medical Standards
• Increase to FAA reimbursement to $300 on January 1, 2014
• Further protections in Company mandated medical exams
Section 18- Witnesses and Representatives
• Establishes a new ALPA Flight Pay Loss Bank for supporting safety programs
Section 19- Investigation and Discipline
• Incorporation of prior settlement agreements
• Clarification of pilot’s right to representative at investigatory meetings
• Clarification of pay during removal from service during an investigation
Section 22- Seniority
• PIC determination for double crews deleted, and determination for PIC and SIC on augmented
crews handled in grievance settlement 10-02 (see below)
• Probationary period will begin following pilots release to the line
Section 23- Furlough and Recall
• Limitation on pilot receiving furlough pay and working in a non-flying position with Company
Section 31 – Effect on Prior Agreements, Effective Date and Duration
• Effective Date is the first day of the March 2011 bid period
• Amendable Date is the first day of the March 2013 bid period, unless ALPA elects to make the
Amendable Date the first day of the March 2012 bid period
o If ALPA elects to shorten the term of the Agreement, the following occurs:
The 3% pay increase otherwise scheduled for the first day of the March 2012 bid
period is cancelled; and
The parties will begin bargaining in accordance with Section 6 of the RLA within
40 days of ALPA’s notice of cancellation, but no sooner than February 1, 2012
• A “Mid Term Discussions and Status of Administrative TA’s in Future Section 6 Bargaining” letter
is included which commits the parties to schedule interim discussions to occur between the new
effective date of the Agreement and the amendable date
o The purpose of these sessions is to allow the completion of the remaining CBA sections
when Section 6 Bargaining resumes as expeditiously as possible
LOAs included
FDA LOA – (Foreign Duty Assignments in the EMEA and HKG)
o Provides overall benefit improvements and permits the establishment of an FDA in CGN
• FOQA LOA- (Flight Operations Quality Assurance Program)
o Ensures ALPA Pilots will be the only “Gatekeepers” of identified data
o For additional information see AC 120-82
• ICAO LOA - (Convention on International Civil Aviation Conformations)
o Provides rules and procedures for monthly bids, system bids, legality conflicts and pairing
issues arising from the Fair Treatment of Experienced Pilots Act
• Iraq and Afghanistan Flying LOA
o Includes pay premiums and operational issues for these locations
MOU’s and Settlements conditional upon ratification vote
• Section 4.A.2.b. Settlement
o Grievances 09-02 and 09-04 resolved through a permanent agreement to the operation
of Section 4.A.2.b. that provides:
System-wide limitations on BLG/RLG spreads
Reserve line modifications
Exit language
o Actual Section 4 language still subject to modification or removal when bargaining the
next CBA
• Section 22.B.2. Settlement
o Grievance10-02 resolved through a permanent amendment to the designation of the PIC
and SIC on augmented flight segments
PIC and SIC will be designated through a single Standard pairing (CA/FO) for
each augmented flight segment; Seniority applies via monthly bidding process
and if necessary during operational revisions in the field
Pairing(s) that augment the Standard Crew, whether awarded to a CA or FO, will
always be designated as relief pilots
• ASAP MOU – (Aviation Safety Action Program)
o Ensures FedEx pilots are protected from Company discipline relating to an accepted
ASAP report

• Collection of Human Performance/Alertness Data MOU
o Creation of an industry leading fatigue study and mitigation structure with ALPA inclusion
and involvement at all levels
o Program includes processes to solicit collection of voluntary sleep and fatigue data for
use in improving pilot alertness levels and in support of a FRMS program

The lump sum is calculated using 2010 pensionable pay, which for most was likely less than the CBA guaranteed total. Did the last CBA pay a percentage of the previous year's pay as the lump sum, or was it a set amount based on years/seat?
