A two week ANC trip would go pretty senior. Senior commuters would jump at the chance to only have to ride to work once each month

Bosox, 1800, BC & FP,
Thanks for the replies. I have a copy of the TA and looked at the "Relocation Package #1" which looks pretty good.
Lets say I get SDF initially as I was told and then get displaced to ANC. Do I need to commit to three years in order to get the relocation package? Can I get the relocation and then bid back to SDF on a different aircraft or am I subject to the 24 month "transition freeze" as a new hire? Just trying to plan ahead and figure out what my options would be. I have a co-op in NYC which I am planning on selling prior to moving to Louisville but maybe I can save some money and skip a move by going directly to ANC.
I know this is probably in the TA that I have but without a table of contents it can be difficult to find information. Not knowing the UPS terminology doesn't help either - ie. "seat lock" vs "transition freeze".

Any new hire here has a very high probability of moving to ANC in the near future. Right now there are only 30 of the announced 100 crews holding ANC bids. So if you're junior, even if on another fleet, the odds are high that you'll get displaced there as the MD11 SDF domicile gets smaller.
If you AGREE to forgo any transition bids for three years, you'll get the paid move out of ANC (the normal freeze is two years). BUT, since the most junior FOs in the system will all be in ANC, you won't be able to move anywhere FOR A LONG LONG TIME. Only when your lowly seniority number can hold a position in another fleet or domicile will you be able to move, but all of those vacancies will probably be covered by folks avoiding the ANC domicile.
In any case, good luck at UPS. The training is top notch, but the ANC domicile facilities SUCK. No parking, only one computer
in ops, no bag storage, four chairs and two tables for flight planning. Typical UPS. There is a separate mens and ladies bathroom though....
I am an MD11 instructor picking up a new set of students on Sept 18th, email me if you need more info. I've lived in SDF for almost 16 years now.

So just why ARE the new hires being assigned SDF if they are going to end up in ANC? Looking at it from the company's view, $$$$, if any of these guys end up in ANC now, they will have to be given the total moving package. Nice deal for them, but when is UPS ($$$$) ever that nice?
In the other fleets, if someone is to be based somewhere outside of Mecca, they are goven that assigment right from the start. I have a buddy in training now that was given MIA, others got ONT and SDF. It keeps the company from paying the move, and gives the new hires family a little bit of a heads up about where they will be moving to.
To have a new hire move his family to SDF and start to establish roots, kids in school, ect., and then move them to ANC in a few months, knowing that they would really be needed up in ANC is really cruel.
And they wonder why we commute......

Good point. I guess that if they gave them ANC now, these guys wouldn't have any flying assignments until ANC opened. This being the case, those guys better pack their muckalucks and snow shovels. I hear that you can get a good deal on an igloo off of Northern Lights.
