Default UPS info

The guy who came up with www.ipaontop.org is well known around UPS. Many of us don't even read his data because he is known to use incomplete data (or old numbers) to skew things as he sees fit. Wouldn't waste my time going to that site

But he does know how to put together a website. His site is entertaining if not slanted....

I'm curious to what others think of this capture over 8 block override proposal. Our current contract captures all over 10. The COMPANY's Oct05 proposal had a capture formula that would capture all over 6 on 2 man crew, all over 9 on 3 man crew and something else I can't remember for a double crewed. Chimenti ripped their proposal for being worthless but I can't figure out how and no one in ALPA ever got back to me on the specifics as to why it is worthless (after numerous attempted questions).

So the company's proposal seems better to me. I believe we have a lot more 2 man crew aircraft blocking over 6 hours in a duty period than we have any crew aircraft blocking over 8. If you block 8:01 you only get 1 extra minute. Under the company's proposal if you blocked 7:30 you'd get a extra 1:30 and I think that would have been a better benefit.

You are right, it is a better deal. Someone misspoke when they said "worthless". They must have been talking about another part of the contract to go with this proposal.

The union is putting the best spin on things. They traded this for something else. They want you to approve it. They want you to think they are doing a great job for the membership. They want to keep their jobs and have everyone like them. In short, union guys are people too.

Not a bad TA by any means. Not as good as some would have you believe. I personally am glad the membership did not get everything they wanted. Negotiating worked like it should, eveyone left feeling a little shorted.

It should pass and it is an improvement. But I am mystified why folks have to wait until '08 for stuff. Good negotiating Fred.

Default Irs

"Making dEviation money taxable for Union and IRS purposes is a Concessionary move" Mach84.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the IRS determines what is and isn't "Taxable", not a company or union contract.

Now if they paid you the money as compensation first and then told you "Feel free to buy a ticket to work" with the money; then it would surely be taxable. However then you could use the money for anything you wanted at that point.

I think the IRS is starting to look into corporate benefits as compensation, and a free plane ride to work may again be coming under scrutiny as compensation like a CEO using the jet. I'll be curious to see the explanation for this in the contract since I'll be comuting soon.
