FEDEX 757's
#12
Maybe you guys can buy our 727-100s with the RR engines when they are removed from service over the next 18 months. The final Brown 727 is slated to be retired in June 2008.

Nice try at a cheapshot dude. Actually it is a great relationship thanks. Better than one you're probably in which might explain why you are so pleasant. You must not know how to bid or manipulate schedules because the FedEx/UPS pilot couples I know see eachother alot.

OK, here's what I got.....
Follow on aircraft to the 727 (notice, NOT replacement aircraft) to be announced at the 26 Sept BOD meeting. Expected to be 757's but 737's are in the mix too.
I have a good source in mx that says they actually completed a statement of work to do the 757 mods and have released the statement to potential vendors to cut the doors and do the mods. He has seen engineering diagrams showing the cockpit: 4 jumpseats total (two observer seats up front, two in the back) with a hard bulkhead, lav and galley area.
Looking at Delta's 757's: potential is to buy a block of 86 now with a possible total of 186.
Where they go and how they're used is anyone's guess. FYI.... a loaded 757-200 can make ANC and can TO and Lnd at any of our current markets. Speculation says we bring the buses back CONUS from Europe and use the 757's there. Just stuff I've heard.......

The -100's must all go away by '08. FDX won't invest the $ to put in the solid bulkhead required by the FAA. The -200's must go away by 2012 - that's an FAA noise issue. As much as I loved to fly the classic ole bird I can't believe those noise makers are still allowed to fly today!

I know you're just the messenger, but it doesn't seem likely they'd come from DL. The above link claims to be current as of Sep. 2006 and says that they have 121 757's. Plus it says that they just agreed to take on 10 more from AA that were previously with TWA. Doesn't seem like they want out of their 757's anytime soon, but who knows?

The rumor I hear gets them from the third to last on your list, some of which are already sitting in Miami painted all white, and one of which has already got a cargo door cut in it.
They'll be announced at the upcoming shareholders' meeting.
How juicy is that?!?!?

I think the initial buy might come from DAL but as to the rest I don't know. One of the +'s with 757's is the above list -- they can be had in big blocks of acft with the same configuration. 86 is a big number and a big bunch of sheet metal but if the horse deal is right then who knows.
