The ICAO Council adopted on 10 March 2006 an amendment to Annex 1 - Personnel Licensing that increased by five years the upper age limit for commercial pilots operating two-pilot aircraft. Althought this applied to ICAO airspace, contracting states had to either adopt the change or publish an exception to the ICAO change. The US published an exception since the FAA still held as current the "Age 60 Rule". Only two other countries (China and Columbia) maintained age 60. (By the way, the US held more exceptions to the Convention than any other single country.) The new provisions became applicable on 23 November 2006.
ALPA was responsible for delaying implementation from 23Nov2006 to 13Dec2007, holding the position that it was "unsafe." When ALPA's lackey, Oberstar, told ALPA the train was leaving the station with or without them, ALPA joined in to limit the damage.
And of course, after years of playing the "safety" card, ALPA had the rule modified for the USA to NOT require an under-60 crewmember be on board within the USA.

$200K times 5. The loss of potential retirement income during those 5 years is offset in most cases by the increased retirement income during the remaining years. YMMV.

And the increased retirement income is, in turn, offset by death. You will have 5 less years to enjoy receiving any retirement income.

No thanks. I'll work my 12 days a month (3 days every 3rd month with vacation), keep feeding the 401(K) and B Fund, keep my health/dental/vision and life insurance plus get to 25 years for a full retirement. If you are stressed by this job you are either doing it wrong or need to bid back to the right seat. This is not a stressful job.

Good luck with that plan. Wal Mart will start you off as part time help with about 32 hours per week at $8 an hour. That way they don't have to pay benefits. So, 32 hours per week at $8 an hour would give you a little over $1000 per month. Oh wait, we need to pay FICA/Medicare/Federal Tax/State Tax, etc. And since you will be the new guy (even Wal Mart has a senority system) you can plan on going to work from 11p to 8a to stock shelves (that ought to be fun at an advanced age). Plus, you will be supervised by some 20 year old high school graduate who is also working part time. Sounds like a fun week to me.

Have you ever worked at Walmart? It isn't that bad. And, the 20 year old supervisor - all he cares about is getting back to his mommas basement to play video games
Also, what is the difference between flying cargo or stocking shelves all night?
After stocking the shelves you get to go home and sleep in your own bed

Substitute Walmart for any number of other things I could do to make $900/month. It ain't that hard.
