Anyone know the difficulty of commuting to and from bases for air cargo carriers?

Depends on several factors including where you commute from & perhaps seniority to a degree. If you fly for FEDEX your choice of domiciles are somewhat limited, there is MEM (which is the primary domicile), LAX, ANC & Subic. If you live in a city that FEDEX serves then you would probably have the option of jumpseating back & forth on FEDEX. You may also be lucky enough to bid trips that layover where you live (seniority permitting) & somtimes those trips may even start or end with a deadhead. A lot of guys will also bid trips that start or end with a deadhead regardless of where the trip goes just to avoid the issue of getting yourself to MEM. Of course the other option is to jumpseat on another carrier. I haven't done it recently but a lot of guys do it & I believe we have reciprocal priveleges with just about everybody. Check out the following site to get an idea of where you can jumpseat with FEDEX, it may help.

Air Cargo Carriers is part of CASS and shoudn't be a problem on most carriers. Most of their bases are only served by commuter airlines so space is limited. Flying five nights a week catching a jumpseat home on sat. morning and then back to work mon. morning can kick your butt in a hurry. If you really are going to be their for a bit try to get a position in MKE and you'll have an easier time making those flights. Good luck!

Fedex's "no harm, no foul" jumpseat has given me at least 2 more days at home every month, and I never sweat a ride to work.

Thats cute, still upset about the other forum. I dont have a problem with military pilots, but I do have a problem with your condescending attitude towards everyone who is not military.

The reason that you made the transition is because you chose too. Plus you went through the military training back in the day. Yes you are old compared to new military pilots. The military is not what it used to be and there are giving away slots left and right. If this is not true then tell the guy that keeps calling me to stop. Yo dude, is this your work? Yea, I'm the one with a bad attitude. For the record, I've never had an issues with any of the civilian pilots at FedEx, they are some of my best friends there. Call me crazy, but I think it's your attitude that has no place in the cockpit. I'm sure flying boxes around is way below your stature anyway. Plus where would you get your peanuts?

Yeah thats my work and I stand by what I said. And maybe that wasnt aimed at specifically you but you chose to get involved. And like I said before you wont be treated any differently than me because you chose another route. Outside of the work place I thank you for your service but in the cockpit you are just like everyone else. I will not offer an apology because like I said before I stand by my word. I respect your opinion as to my opinion, and that is my final answer.

Hey sigep, I don't think many mil guys expect or would even want preferential treatment. I wouldn't respect any that did. However, it sounds like you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder. Lets all just agree to respect each other's backrounds. I know that the civ guys put up with a lot of sh!t to get to where they want to be. Guess what? So do we. Yes, we have a fraternal bond and we take care of our own. That trait was handed down to us by people who developed it in order to stay alive. It ain't gonna change my friend. As for "real wars", how much time have YOU spent in the sandbox?? If the answer is even a little bit, then I'll apologize and buy you a beer. But I suspect that you have no idea what it is like to spend 6 months a year away from home in a region of the world that doesn't like you very much. So...with all due respect, shut the f*&k up about a subject you know nothing about. BTW, get a sense of humor, Jolly was just making a joke.
