FDX - Preferential bidding coming?
#61
Look it was a bad deal because there was not a lot of ground work. People who said it was a bad deal and we are screwing FDX pilots with vague language and extremely loopy tax rules were called proponents of hystaria and blown off. If you cant stand the I told you so's look the other way. Or I'll look the other way at your calls to stop the I told you so's.
That purpose was blown out of the water by the company canceling bids, filling vacancies with an excess bid, redoing the canceled bid followed by the big excess we were trying to avoid.
I think some of us were fooled by some really nefarious people. People who stood to gain at giving up HKG and CDG on the cheap. But, as FDX LAG points out, many just didn't give a hoot. I put the figure there at 30-50%.
My goal is to reduce the number of don't give a hoots and fooled so we can negate the plans of the nefarious.

Only if the MEC/NC agreed to a crappy system, with crappy paramaters. Read my previous posts, not ALL PBS is created equal, nor negotiated the SAME. Not all systems build trips right up to vacation, not all systems make a pilot meet a credit window, as you allude to above. Some systems give the vacation credit, PLUS a "virtual credit" in a vacation month so pilot does minimal, if any flying during a vacation month.
CAL PBS = crappy. Uses globalization and unstacking, because the pilots let it when it was negotiated. They bent over, grabbed their ankles, an let the company inflict maximum destruction on their cornholes when they (CAL MEC) agreed to that system with those (lack of) work rules. And they weren't even in BK.
ASA PBS = one of the best out there. Max vacation conflict, preferences honored more than ANY PBS out there. Doesn't use globalization to run the sort/solution.
Doesn't matter, just vote NO.

Proves that having the wrong guys in power at a critical moment can have disastrous consequences.
I think the best way to avoid pain is to just say No to PBS.

I was bidding 50% @ the "U" with PBS. There is not enough time left on earth for me to even begin to scratch the surface of how bad the system can be to all but the most senior pilots.

Because if/when this crap comes your way, the MEC is doing the TA roadshows, you can do one of 2 things;
1) Act like the girl the "The Wedding Crashers". Where she's stomping her feet, fingers in her ears, holding her breath and turning blue because daddy isn't giving her her little way. OR...
2) Educate yourself on the PBS. And when you go to the roadshow or talk to a MEC/NC rep, you get to play "stump the chump" and ask him the tough questions they don't want to answer. Such as "hey the pay rate looks good, but why did you guys agree to a system that uses unstacking/globalization/high credit windows/no vacation low/withholds LCA checkairman lines from FO's? You guys agreed to a serious concession" etc etc etc etc. And watch him/her squirm and think about the colossal mistake they made, all the while "holding their feet to the fire". And in the process, hopefully educating some of you peers as well that may be hung up on the higher pay rate offered, etc. The choice is yours man........
Or just read below.
As far as having the right guys in power. All that does is determine the suck level.

Check out new #1 SO on 727. Not coming back to backseat after 37 years at FedEx to fly the line. He is here to help implement Preferential Bidding wearing a MGMT hat and needed to hold a line position to do so. Just ask him.

How is he planning on doing that? I'm pretty sure that he will be getting a pretty chilly reception from the pilot group! There is absolutely nothing he can say that would convince me the preferential bidding is the way to go.

Guess I'll have to go buy a hat now.
