I looked at that job posting, couldn't tell much from it. Would this be a simulator instructor job or just ground instuctor developing course material? Live in MEM I assume. I wonder what it pays? It probably wouldn't look good to apply and turn it down to still be considered for pilot job.

These are teaching positions. 19 work days for 4-week "months" and 23 work days for the 4 5-week "months" every year, so they are potentially commutable. A few years ago they started at $60K.
It used to be a two year lock before you could apply for another position, but you spend that two years getting to show FedEx how much they need you on the line.

If you think that this is the road to the cockpit, it isn't. These are pro positions only and the reason you will not need a medical. Pay is in the 60's (pay grade 25) for ground instructors, and in the high 70's for procedures and maneuvers instructors (pay grade 26 and 27). The bonuses are pretty good, at least his year anyway, and the vacation, personal days, and floating holidays makes for a pretty good QOL. The lone thing it isn't is the road to the cockpit.

I'll have to disagree, many guys have made this their path to a line job. Just because it doesn't require a medical means nothing. It's a great way to learn the company and if you do a great job and are qualified for the line, I would jump at the opportunity in a second. It's a 2 year commitment, then you are eligible to apply to the line. If you meet the line requirements (don't take the job if you don't meet them with the idea of going to the line), don't rub anyone the wrong way, you will get an interview!

Bad gouge. Every individual hired under this program is allowed to apply for a job change (JCA) at the end of the two year contract. Come here, work hard, make a good name for yourself and you've got an equal if not better than equal shot at getting hired to the line. Five of the last five 75 Pro instructors made it happen... FedEx loves to hire from within and take the proven employee.
Also, pay is off slightly. Level 27 (teaches Pro and Man events) is a $7K/month job. You do have to have a medical to teach Man events, but not for Pro events. No medical = lower pay.

Did this many years ago. Two and a half years as 727 pro instructor, back and front seats. Then went to line for 16 more years, now retired comfortably. I was treated very well as a pro, got to know lots of people and the job was very rewarding. I would probably have never gotten a line job at FEDEX without going this route. Also, commuted the entire time, not real easy but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Good luck.
