They are bought and paid for...according to the Jepps rep running around the Falcon building couple weeks ago. She showed off one during testing in sim. Has nice leather cover that looks like the old Jepps binders. She alos said a mount will be available...remove the EFB mount and put the ipad mount up.

They are having trouble getting EFB software to talk to Ipad Jepps software, that and IT dept is still working out IT issues....

So, we're not going to have the EFB any more?

In that case, I expect the "fix" will be a bigger pain than the problem.

Whatever it takes to never go back to lugging around a 50lb bag. I am glad that's behind us.

I have always liked Jepps, even though I've been Lido-ized for a few years now. Good to know United guys seem to like their Jepp iPads.

I like the pic MaydayMark, hehe

The way it was explained to me, EFB is still primary. Soooo, one would load EFB (to be legal), then, remove it (if one wanted to), install ipad mount, and have at it. UNTIL, I guess...the FAA makes iPad primary for us. Clear as mud?

I see today on news, Frontier got approval...

I literally load the route in foreflight and on skycharts on my ipad while the EFB is loading. It is not a substitute for the EFB, but while it takes its 3-5 minutes to load I get some SA as to the route and other big picture items. I can also "tap" my ipad in an emergency if required and pull up chart and other info with a tap in much less time. Again--not in lieu of official guidance just nice SA building info. Hard to beat the ipad for ease of use....I have to suspect that or its replacements are the future.

.
This is correct. EFB is the primary and will stay in the jet. iPads can be pulled out for reference. One issue that everyone who uses them says is that there is no way to charge it inflight. USB? Alaska has theirs on for takeoff and landing (works great and very easy to use), off for cruise.

I really can't understand why we just don't go for the iPad pure. Is this a situation where we have to have a backup somehow in case it dies? Hence the EFB stays, backed up by Apple? If so, can they move the EFB out of the way and keep it somewhere nearby, but put a good mount for the iPad and let us go with that? My first trip with the new Jepps and I gotta say, it's painful to a degree, but I'll get used to it--why can't it zoom in tighter? The QUALITY of the product just blows. I can get used to the process, but how about something that looks a little better than if I took a pic with an iPhone and used that?!

Obviously, management by objective is at work here. The rollout has been a disaster, the product is weak, everyone is confused...yep, feels just about right!
