Thoughts on Louisville
I'm considering moving to Louisville to begin my career at UPS. What areas have good schools, where are the places to avoid, and what should I make of the many pilots that live in southern Indiana vs. Louisville?
Comments on J-town? I've had 2 UPSers tell me this area is great.
Thanks for any input in helping us decide.

Frog,
I went to LV last weekend to check the place out. J-town is nice, but I like Prospect and Oldham county as well. I am told the schools are a bit better in Oldham if that matters to you. Anchorage is supposed to have nice schools but older houses. There is a lot to choose from.
my .02, but I'm a poolie without much KY knowledge.
Also, Indiana I was told was doable but bridge traffic can be absurd. I didn't get a chance to check out the Highlands, but I'm told it is nice as well. Try doing a search for GLARMLS.com
Good Luck! Let me know if you find a good spot!

Lousiville
I grew up in Lousiville and have to say it depends how old your kids are and what you are looking for in schools. Are you inquiring about private or public schools? There is Sacred Heart Model/Middle grade school, Trinity High School, and St Xavier High, which are Catholic schools. Country Day is a very nice private school. I have many friends who attended the public grade and high schools in this area and did just fine---many were good in the Lousiville area--some better than others. Ballard High School or Wagner High School off Shelbyville Rd were some of the better high schools. The areas I recommend is the Lyndon area, Hurstborne, Cherokee Park, Scenica (sp) Park area, or on Lexington Rd. There are many other areas such as the Prospect and Wesport Rd area, which are very nice and growing from when I lived there 18 years ago. If you want to live outside the Lousiville area, the public schools in Frankfort KY are very good. My wife grew up there and did just fine and they still have maintained their structure. Frankfort is approx 45 minutes from Lousiville. Good luck at UPS---I look forward to hopefully following in your footsteps in the future and head back home, hoping to work for UPS. Take Care Goose

I would stay out of Jefferson County too crowd try Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, Bullitt Counties, some are even going down to E-town to the Good schools. Stay out of the west side of Louisville, and if you are a yankee there is always Indiana (across the river)

Stay out of SDF??? I would love to get baesd in MIA WHEN and if every I get out of the pool. But why stay out? I mean what you make and the cost of living is a BIG split. I know MIA is not cheap, and ONT is REALLY not cheap.
A kid who grew up in NY city (me that is) would it really be that bad? I am down in CVG right now having a good old time with the country girls!!! Come down here alot and like it. I will miss the beach, but otherwise it really isn't that bad. People are much nicer then in NY.

I appreciate the thoughtful responses from all of you! I realize that SDF isn't the finest city in America, but I think it will make my life easier as a pilot for UPS. California is too expense, and Fla. is definitely out. I look forward to researching the areas you mentioned. Some great information- thanks again!!

And yes, you'll miss the beach. I've been at the beach every day this week and I'll be fishing tomorrow.

Frog and Pax2cargo!
I guess Pax2cargo flew passengers , but (If you guys don't mind sharing) I was wondering what backgrounds you both have and how much time you had when BIG Brown hired you!
I also assume you both had an internal req.
Thank you,
Would love to fly for brown!
