Default FDX Latest "Scheduling Matters"

Found it interesting in today's "Scheduling Matters" from ALPA that for DP's the status of the pilot who actually flew the trip determines whether the trip was "avoided" or not. First time I've ever heard that. So if for some reason someone "accidentally" picks up a DP, he can drop it and hope a reserve gets it and it would still be considered avoided.

Has anybody ... ever ... been able to drop a DP?

That's hilarious!

Well, usually those who pick them up have no intention of dropping them because they purposely picked them up.

I've talked to several guys and seen others on PFC who accidentally picked them up and were able to drop. But this explanation was new to me, I have always heard that however the trip was initially assigned determined the status. But maybe I just heard that from some of the 12 Angry Men and took it for gospel.

And, looks like we don't have to watch for them just adding a D/H to it, and giving it to another domicile anymore...

"The pairing number is controlling. In the event a pairing is revised, split or rebuilt, only the original pairing number is considered disputed, regardless of final design."

Is this part of our non confrontational "business-like relationship" with management?

It has been like this for at least the last 4 years. I've been on here a couple of times trying to stop the people spreading the story that "once the bell is rung it cant be un-rung". ALPA put out a memo a long time ago addressing this. The people saying once its picked up, it no longer matters have been doing more damage than the person who mistakenly picks it up. Because then the person feels they have no option and flies it anyway. Now everyone should know, you can always get rid of a DP. No-one is ever forced to fly, we have tools at our disposal if you don't feel physically/mentally ready to fly.
