Dow Down 7 on Lackluster FedEx Forecast

....A drop in transportation stocks ultimately caused major indexes to finish lower, however. Analysts pinned negative sentiment on a disappointing forecast from FedEx Corp.....

I feel so guilty that I asked for a decent contract with my employer, it makes me feel like the Grinch who stole everyone's Christmas

NOT!!!

What a bunch of BS. How many companies has Fedex sucked up since the announcement of our contract? They have money to buy up companies, Kinkos profit is down, yet our contract is the reason for the doom and gloom.

I'm really sorry I read this thread. Now I'm going to have one hell of a time trying to get to sleep tonight, knowing that we pilots have screwed the stockholders out of their Christmas profits. Oh, no. Wait a minute.... let me rethink that....F&%k Them!

HoursHore had it exactly right when he said "Profit Actually increases yet the stock goes down, because it didn't meet some eggheads "expectations" based upon previous conditions." Why should I care that because some bean counter who has never stepped foot on FedEx property, has over ambitious expectations, that are not met. It's a good thing that we don't fly jets with the same degree of looseness that these wall street projectionists seem to display on an ongoing basis, because if we did, we'd really be in trouble.

One would hope that those with a brain on top of their noggin' would realize that had the pilot group exacted and enacted their rights due to the RLA we could have cost our company MUCH more than 25 CENTS per share had this contract negotiation gotten ugly and dirty....

And frankly, after how many quarters of positive earnings (?), a little payout to the biggest contributor of raw revenue to FedEx Corp would not be a bad thing for the shareholders. Personally, I like to think of it as a capital investment that costs 25 cents a share. I'll take that!

One other thing.

How much does a Superbowl commercial cost?
How much did our contract cost?
How much of that "lost profit" is due to a/c not moving because crewmembers stopped whoring for $$$$$$

OK.. so that was more than one

Default Calm down

Guys, why you getting so worked up. I don't think anybody really cares about our contract. It's a price of doing business and the reality is that all the initial costs of the contract probably did cause a dip in the earnings. So what, who gives a sh1t. I really don't think Fred or anybody in that line does. And I don't think they really blamed anybody, just stating the reality. Tony????

I think we all know it's just a bunch of spin and hype. If we had gotten a new contract when the old one was amendable, it would be ancient history by now. I didn't see any mention of the Purple Promise payouts -- the new "profit sharing" program. Of course the pilots are the scapegoats, they're the ones in the EVIL union. (Hidden message to all other employees is "don't you ever organize or YOU'LL be responsible for bad things happening to the Company, too.")

No news here, folks. Cast your obligatory sarcastic remark and move along.

It's interesting to me that the "bean counters" (both FedEx and Wall Street) never factored in a new agreement with the pilots. Maybe they didn't think we would ever get an agreement?

Default Wall Street Journal

My "free copy" of the Wall Street Journal (Dec 21) has an article on the FedEx "Profit Decline" on page A3. Oddly enough the article never mentions the greedy pilots. Even Fred Smith and 'FedEx executives' quoted in the article site fuel prices as the reason for the decline...not a single shot fired at labor. I guess the cause of the profit decline is situationally dependent upon the audience at the time....how convenient.
