FDX - Fleet / Bid Plan
Fleet Plans
The LDS modification of our first 767 “classic” aircraft is in the final flight testing phase with STC expected in April. The 3 remaining EFIS/ICAS “classic” airplanes are planned for LDS conversion starting in June with completion by August of 2014. We will receive 10 additional 767’s in FY15, with LDS conversions planned prior to their release to line operations.
Retirements of the MD10 fleet will continue to be a key component of our system form planning and they will be replaced by 767’s. We also currently anticipate parking 6 MD11s as well as 3 additional Airbus aircraft by May 2015.
Bid Plans
These fleet changes, along with approximately 120 anticipated pilot retirements during FY15, impact our manning and training schedules creating the need for a vacancy posting in the 757, 767, and 777 fleets. This vacancy posting will be followed by an excess posting to realign crews in all seats of the MD and Airbus fleets. This two-step process is a bit cumbersome, but is the only way to rebalance staffing under current Section 24 (Vacancy Bidding) rules. The vacancy posting will afford pilots the ability to proactively select positions in the Boeing airplanes in accordance with their seniority, while understanding the future of their existing seat and fleet positions. It is likely that some pilots will hold a position on the vacancy bid that will be removed on the subsequent excess posting. Without a change to the vacancy bidding rules, this is the most transparent and open way to accomplish the realignment of our manning to match the anticipated future fleet size.
A vacancy posting reflecting the numbers listed below will be released within the next week and will remain open for two weeks:
777 Captain MEM +60
777 First Officer MEM +38
767 Captain MEM +79
767 First Officer MEM +73
757 Captain MEM +32
The planned retirement and parking of MD aircraft referenced in the section above are causing the MD11 and Airbus fleets to be over-staffed (all seats). Even after accounting for anticipated retirements in those seats, the over-staffing will necessitate an excess bid.
Voluntary movement in appropriate and balanced numbers, as required by the fleet reductions in the MD11/10 and Airbus, is unlikely. We hope pilots will assess their positions both in relative seniority and utilize practice bids to make an informed choice and establish their place in the transition process. Once the vacancy posting is closed and the training letter is established, Crew Staffing will re-assess the over-manning and publish an excess posting in late May/early June 2014 to properly align pilots to fleet size.
This excess would necessitate placement of -1’s on the bottom of all non-FDA crew positions (with the exception of the 757 first officer seat), forcing seniority alignment of those not choosing to align themselves voluntarily in the vacancy posting. It is important to understand that junior or out-of-seniority awards that might occur in the vacancy posting may be displaced by the excess posting, resulting in pilots being moved to their next lower standing bid or default seniority position. Hong Kong crewmembers should note that the elimination of India flying from HKG may result in an excess in HKG, as well.

If anyone figures out how to enter a SBA bid for the 76 let me know. The PAC is closed. And no the SIBA link does not work.
"If you are interested, please submit your bid through VIPS. The code is 101. Percentage bidding will be allowed. If awarded this assignment, you will bid the specially designated lines in the June and July bid packs."
