Yeah, I heard about those deals with UAL. Amazing, may as well fly first class if you can.

But in this case it was Alaska, and the first class fares were higher. I ended up calling up corporate travel to book it, and they said yep, coach is available and cheaper. I think the problem was that I initially checked the fares at first class, and the system just locked on to that, no matter what I did. Perhaps if I would have logged out and back in again, it would have given me the coach fares. The corporate travel guys are really busy now, but they seem happy. They all say, "Job security!"

Like Overnitefr8 said happens sometimes, DCA-MEM showed first class on AA cheaper than any economy seat on new FDX Deviation site. Being wary of the new PFC program, I called GT and they confirmed this was okay to book FC even though economy is warranted by CBA. Great service from GT and agent told me ticket will 'automatically' include explanation on receipt so one doesn't get bit by the expense report folks. We will see if an explanation is needed later....

It seems fairly obvious what's going on here. Anecdotally, it seems to me that the system is trying to steer deviators toward fares that return bank to the company.

Am I missing something?

I don't know. I am sure the company prefers we deviate and deviate early. This system will certainly accomplish that. Incidentally, I posted my standard deviation practice here several years ago: use trip manager book my ticket then deviate after the company bought my scheduled ticket. Several of the posters here thought I was committing a mortal sin and screwing the airlines by having 2 reservations at the same time.

I think it is simply a control issue only a bonus that they will probably have fewer ticket transaction in the future. Since I travel exclusively on one airline I will simply look at their schedule and call global travel to price the option I want.

Don't know if this has been already mentioned, but when I called up Global Travel, they said that trip manager will be turned off on June 1st. So book next month's trips now, if you can!

Have a mid trip DH next month. Tried using the "improved" POS that the company foisted on us. It would not allow me to see schedules or fares unless I submitted a mid trip deviation request first.

Unbelievably crazy stupid...
