So what kinds of schedules could an FNG expect?

If you get based in SDF, bad enough commuting would suck. Reserve goes senior.

ANC - reserve blocks of 1 week on the 747 and 2 weeks on the MD 11.

Don't know about MIA or ONT.

They are called Base Trip Lines (BTL). Don't worry, I'm sure you'll like them. Remember not to whine to those of us who did them for years. Just think happy thoughts about the money and how much better this worker's paradise is compared to your last slave ship.

Surely tens of thousands.

Some pilots here at UPS get myopic, and are unable to see the big picture. Second year pay of $150K is no different from getting hired at American and becoming an MD-80 captain at Year 2.

Plus, he would enjoy at Year 2 more time off than an MD-80 captain in LGA.

We have our downsides at UPS, but overall guys aren't leaving because of the good pay and TIME OFF (my junior crashpad roomie-- bottom 5% in domicile-- got four weeks off utilizing one week of vacation).

The bottom 15 or so on the 747 can NOT hold reserve during fishing season, (summer).
1) ANC-SDF-ANC (3day) followed on day 4-6 by ANC-SDF-ANC
2) ANC-PVG-ANC (3day) followed on day 4-6 by ANC-PVG-ANC
3) Week on/off Reserve

2 week trips go the most senior.

To commute 11 hrs to reserve at ANC flying backside of the clock with "schedules that are killing me" and shaving off the last 5-10 years from your expected lifespan? It would take really thick skin to make it in that kind of job.

I'll take it!

I'm commuting to TYO. Second year pay is more than I'm making now.

You Sir, are exactly correct! It's a tough world out there and guys are going to flock to UPS in the hopes of landing a really good paying job, because a lot of them have been flying as hard or harder schedules, for companies paying one fifth what they can expect to earn at UPS. The problems you suffer with there are of little concern to those not fortunate enough to be able to suffer right along with you. Once there, it might be a different matter, but from an outsider's point of view, the grass is certainly much greener at big Brown.
