Here's the honest answer as far as UPS is concerned....back when all the airlines were hiring and UPS was a second tiered job, UPS did hire a few pilots that had less than a four year degree. Now, with UPS being a top tier destination, the odds are very heavily stacked against you. I can't imagine even one pilot being hired this past year with zero college, let alone less than a 4 year degree.

I know that's not the answer you were seeking...sorry.

level head....? every pilot out there can fly with the best of them( at least on their resume)..unfortunately everyone wants a chance...a company has to set some limits on hiring..good luck

a friend of mine just got hired at UPS with no degree..another one has been called without one as well.

Both had MD11 time.

Nothing is impossible, put an application in you have nothing to lose (at least at UPS, FedEx you lose 50 bucks).

Best of luck!

I was told by a newly "paroled",um..retired UPS management checkairman, who was very well liked and respected by us line grunts, that the interview process has recently changed. He said a computer randomly picks potential interviewees after looking for three answers to three critical questions:

-1500tt?
-1000 PIC Turbine?
-4 year degree?

Since you don't have the degree, I'd say your chances are just about zero since the computer will toss your app out.

After that, the computer randomly picks folks to be called and interviewed. From there, these folks are matched with any LOR's they may have on file. That's why folks, as of late, are being called for interviews who may not have any internal recommendations.

This manager was a little ticked due to the fact his son was promised an interview and now he can't help him since the HR computer has to "randomly" pick him first.

Heard that from another board as well. If you really want to work for UPS or FedEx, you could always go and get that 4 year degree. It will make you a better person.

I dont want to flat out say BS but its not always the case.

I know of several over there that have "0" college time. I know one had contacts on the inside and had his papers walked in.

A friend of mine dropped out of college in his first year and was hired in 2000 with BAMs ???? (bare a$$ mins)

You can't even apply unless you have the first two. So there really isn't a need for the computer to "seek out" individuals with the above requirements, because everyone's got them.

As for the degree issue, there are people getting interviews/hired recently without it. I wouldn't give up just because someone here tries to discourage you.

Keep on knocking, someone will answer the door.

I do stand corrected on the college requirement. I didn't realize currency in a big aircraft like the MD-11 was enough for them to overlook the four year degree.

I am confused. Are you employed, on furlough, or both??

Anyway, lots of places will give you college credit for your flying. Try ERAU online, and also.. the University of Memphis. You can make up your own degree program there, and gets credit for your flying ratings.

Think long term... not where you want to be today, but where you want to be in 3-5 years. If you go get the degree now, you have a terrific story for a future interview, and it will make you look great.
