How absolutely sad.

Is this in any way related to the new procedure for the 757 main cargo door now being left "fully open" instead of in the canopy position while loading?

I work the night sort here at the Indy hub and it literally scares the daylights out of me. If you let your guard down, you will get hurt. Just last week a fuel truck hit an Operations Manager and almost killed him. They got our tugs governed so slow it takes 20 minutes to get from the slide to our aircraft, yet people still manage to run over all kinds of stuff. I'm not sure if a vest would help or not, but the dark blue shirts are a stupid idea imho.
Exactly. And since you work in the system you know the consequences of getting injured on the job. If you get injured due to a known safety violation, the company will do everything to blame you for your injury. I write up the crew stairs all the time for being too far and too low from the aircraft - mostly for the hub-ites safety rather than ours. You all have to go in and out of the plane multiple times. If you're lucky you'd only break a leg but falling the 20+ feet through the gap could easily be a fatality. No one should ignore a safety violation - for your crew or the folks loading the plane.

I don't know anything about 757 loading procedures, I'm on the Airbus. What I know is what I was told by my ramp agent. They gave us all the details of his injuries, but I won't go into that on here. This job can be dangerous at times, mostly due to people just being in too big a hurry, but I like it here. I've had a few close calls myself, but so far only a few bruises. I'm an A&P but I work at Fedex part time as a material handler while I wait for my chance to get into mx here.
