Just so you know, it takes quite a while to get a Simulator installed, up and running and most importantly certified by the FAA before we can use it for training. It ain't cheap either.
I'd say they are right on time if they need to have the airplane in revenue service by Jan 2008.

Get it off either of the websites -- download it to your hard drive (that's where mine is).

It's easier to search in the Adobe Reader.

True for a 727 captain, but s/o's and f/o's will upgrade to the 757 if slots are available. But as Huck stated the 757 will be senior until we get a lot of a/c on the property. Rumor has it vendor problems already exit on the cargo conversion.

Huck,

It's not the first officer who is going to bid wide, or for that matter, narrow body captain, whose "part of the problem." IMHO, Jack was talking about guys who have hung out in the same seat for a looooong time (not including captains) who, for whatever reason haven't upgraded. An f/o to captain IS an upgrade, and as such, that's what JL was suggesting should happen. And I agree that most 727 f/o's won't bid the 757 f/o position. Most wouldn't want to do walk-arounds, but if it were me, I'd jump in a minute. Glass is the way to go and having that in a very quiet cockpit, one that doesn't stay cold in the winter and hot in the summer, would be very appealing to me. Besides, the 757 is one of the two or 3 sexiest commercial jets out there, right behind the DC-8 and the 747-400. (again, IMHO.) Certainly exciting times here at FedEx.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. A guy who might NOT bid 727 left seat MAY bid 757 left seat. In other words, the right-seat tree is going to be shaken a little harder with the 757. (How's that for obscure symbolism?).

Going to see more purple nuggets in ANC for sure. Everyone in mgmt seems pretty happy with the results.

Nope. I meant 727 SO's won't upgrade to 757 FO.

The SO's that started this summer will be able to hold MEM MD11 or A300 on the next bid. But the training date will be WAAYY into the future. If they go 757 the training may be sooner, the ride is nice, but there is a big unknown on when training will actually start and where the planes will be flying. It would suck to be stuck on SO pay as training gets delayed in the 757 due to some "unforseen" hiccups. So the question is will a bunch of 727 FO's and SO's jump at the 757 for its sexiness, or will the 757 go very junior and maybe to some newhires?

The lateral move seat lock I was thinking about was something different and I guess is a marginal issue. If someone is interested in eventually holding Hub turns out of their home town on the 727 or 757 they have to guess when and if the 757 will come. If it goes to Europe they will have made a bad move. In that case you would be facing this upgrade--- 72 SO-75 FO-72 FO or A300 FO. But you would be seat locked in the 757 flying where you don't want to until you could get back to the 72 if the Airbus is not for you. The 757 might mean an extra training cycle if you guess wrong. Or, more importantly, a delayed training date to MD11 or Airbus 300.

I think a lot of the 72 FO's just don't want international and want to see what shakes out on the initial flying in the 757 to make the move.

But I'm talking about those who are part of the "problem" who choose not to upgrade to wide FO or narrow CA when they can.

Any speculation on how long this latest and greatest MOAB is to be? I'm stradling the fence on making a lateral move to 757 FO, since that is the a/c most in my seniority range may upgrade in, or to the right seat of the Bus.

My biggest concern is the duration of the training letter it will generate. It may very well include our bid back to the panel of the 727 in about 19 years!

The last crew of the 777 when it is retired will be picked up by a 727 crew.

I'm happy to be part of the "problem." I'm home all the time and not in Memphis, no offense to anyone in MEM. There truly is something for everyone here, many niches...$$$, time off, family, exotic layovers, exotic women, not-so exotic women... I wont go to the '57 until my town gets it. My program is different than others. I'm going to monitor our maintenence projected training dates for the '57 and make my move accordingly. The tough part is which seat. I would hate to go school for the same pay.
