FDX - How is Teamwork Rewarded?
Incredible Teamwork Helps Flight Crews and Dispatch Excel During Weather Event
Oct 8, 2014. JB
I'd like to thank the crew force for your outstanding efforts during last Thursday evening's recovery into Memphis.
In spite of a line of severe weather that stretched from the Great lakes through the Texas coast, FedEx aircrews again went above and beyond to ensure the superior service level that defines FedEx Express.
Thursday evening's weather was unique in that the almost solid line of storms, while severe, was thin and fast moving.
This allowed our dispatchers to relay the rapidly changing conditions to airborne crews.
Crews had the information they needed, and as a result were able to work around the line of storms as it crossed the hub, even closing the airport during the peak of the recovery.
Our ATC staff in GOCC was able to coordinate traffic for the many flights who kept their dispatchers in the loop via ACARS, allowing those with less fuel higher priority for landing.
The result was what could have been a major divert event turned into a textbook example of the important communications relationship between our dispatchers and pilots.
Only 5 aircraft diverted. Contingency fuel planning, GOCC ATC coordination, dispatch communications, Flight Operations Management, and the exceptional efforts of FedEx pilots all came together to provide another in a long list of successes that set us apart from the competition.
Bravo Zulu.
