U.S. courier delivery company FedEx has highlighted its intentions to expand globally with the purchase of Dutch-based rival TNT Express on Tuesday morning.
The deal is a all-cash public offer that values the European company at $4.8 billion and conditionally means that shares of TNT Express would be offered at 8 euros each.
It would also mean the combined European headquarters of the two firms would be in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Fedex stated in the press release that new debt arrangements would help fund the agreement.

I wish I could find the link but shorty after the failed Ups takeover bid a person involved in the negotiations was being interviewed on a German business news channel and I remember him saying that if fedex had tried a similar purchase they wouldn't block it because they (FDX) have a smaller footprint in the EU. Besides, today tnt is a much smaller, and profitable, company. The deal most definitely will get approved.

Was that close enough ?
Rumor has it the company already knew this was going to happen when it cancelled new hire classes.
There is now a MEGA system bid in the works that will open CGN as a domicile to take advantage of new network flying when this deal is approved. 400 new hires in 2015 for this addition to the system.
AND, they are going to keep the water system operable on our B747s.
All of the above has been verified by the van driver.

By eliminating a European competitor when FedEx takes over DHL, UPS will realize an increase in market share with improved synergies related to its core focus on service and internal cost cutting.
