Okay..how should it have worked in the ideal system? Not aware of what is considered "ideal". Has passover ever been given to someone who COULD hold a slot but then decided NOT to bid it? How would (or did) that system work? Not scoffing...just interested in what this system would look like. I was under the impression that passover was paid if you were denied or held back from a seat. If you could hold it, but did not bid it...why would passover be applicable? We have FOs who stay senior in their seat for Q of L. Should they be paid captain's pay simply because someone junior is in the seat? I thought it was only for situations where you were NOT placed in the seat you held on a bid due to training letter issues or other factors. How did it work before this VTL was resolved?

So now forgive my ignorance but how does this work: If I'm a 75 fo and bid 76 fo....when the bid closes and I'm awarded the latter, what do I bid? 757 lines or 767 lines? And what do I fly?

Maybe Bobby Lightpurple can come back and push for one pay rate for ALL pilots...regardless of seat. No lockers left to stuff, however....

You will continue to bid 75F until you go to training. Once training is complete as a 76F, you would bid the 76 bidpack.

I'm not saying that these should have been paid passover. Just saying a lot of junior guys were making more than some senior to them because the senior guys couldn't bid HKG because they would have actually had to go. Most, but not all, the junior guys knew they could bid HKG, get passover and never have to worry about going. Others thought they could bid it and not go but eventually their number was called.
Usually timing is everything. The earlier you got here the better. In this case, not necessarily true.

The VTL concept didn't affect the initial FEPP guys pay timing very much. But the VTL letter of agreement slowed down future Fepp to a trickle. The VTL and FEPP agreement paved the way for the big excesses that followed almost immediately after it was agreed to. Without the VTL the company would've had to pay FEPP to everyone willing to bid HKG as soon as each excess closed.

If he's 75F now, isn't he legal to fly a 767 if required? What training does he have to do?

That's the meanest thing I've ever heard you say.

I think that the FAA is requiring differences training, and you are only allowed to fly TWO cockpits; We currently have three, which explains the existence of the Indy base.
