Transport HKG-CAN

Several FedEx pilots witnessed drivers falling asleep. We had several close calls. We fought and scratched to get these out of the bidpack. It wasn't about pay, or convenience, or anything but safety. EVERY guy on the MEC when I was there agreed on the issue, and we didn't agree on many things. On this issue there wasn't any gray...
Riding TO the CAN facility during daylight has risks. Riding back at night is foolhardy. Its not just the roads, or the equipment, but the fact that driver has likely been working all day and is now moonlighting after a hard days work.
Remember that night in the 727? You know--the one where you woke up to find the other two crewmembers sleeping? That has happened with Parklane, and as bad as it is on a plane its worse on a crowded Chinese highway.

I wrote it up and sent it to the Union. Union response:
"After speaking with the lawyers, the answer is that Section J.2.a. Of the FDA LOA that waives Section 8.B.1.b. of the CBA applies to all FDA and non-FDA pilots alike. Having not signed the FDA letter does not exempt a pilot from the language contained within the FDA LOA."
So the answer, at least from the Union lawyers perspective is that yes, in spite of the fact that a pilot is Memphis based and has not agreed to the LOA they can still put you in a car for ground transport between HKG and CAN.
