Thank you PB. Do you agree with SB about staying put and getting TPIC in a King Air vs. SIC in G III?

Present day, I have 6-7000 hours SIC between the 727 and Saab 340 (hence my name) and didn't get a peep until I got in the left seat. So a few hours in the right seat of a GIII IMO would not be helpful. Also, you posted you would wrench on it. Saying you could be in the right seat could just be the carrot to get you in the door when you may not fly that much.

I was told by FedEx HR that I wasn't getting a call for an interview because I needed jet time.
Current Regional Check Airman
11,000 TT
6,000 TPIC (all turbo-prop)
Maybe get the 1000 TPIC, then take the right seat in the jet?
Good luck!

I'll also reccomend finishing the 1000 TPIC. It hurt me years ago. I've flown both turboprops and Boeing jets and there is a difference and the hiring boards know it. Although it's pretty easy to argue an engine failure in a King Air requires more skill than in one in a 777, the jet still requires you to be on top of your game for everything else. A complicated arrival into HKG including holding, vectors, speed adjustments, rejoining the arrival, and a last minute runway change will test any big jet transport pilot as will the same into any other busy airport such as ORD or LAX.
If you've flown a transport category jet you have met at least the minimum skill level everyone is looking for in their new hires.
Finish your PIC time and then look for someone with a quick path to the left seat of a Boeing or Airbus while you wait to be called for your dream job.
Just my $.02

1000 hrs TPIC
"I'm guessing the same applies for the majors?"
depends on the major.....SWA lists as "required", others "recommended", some don't list, likely preferred by all
may want to review the APC "Who's been hired" thread....link below begins with posts from March 2015.....thread began in October 2013

also, graduation from accredited, four-year college.....some require, others preferred.
continued success in your flying career!

In 1997 I was hired by FedEx with 10000TT and 7500PIC in a Jetstream. All turboprop and no jet. Maybe things have changed.
