MEF Flying at UPS
Anyone notice how much MEF flying as increased at brown year over year? Simply amazing!!
For those that don't know, MEF flying is known as Management "Emergency" flying. These are our NURPS (Non Union Replacement Pilots) that fly the line replacing union pilots when something happens and a line pilot cannot cover it. Yeah, these guys get paid off our contract rates. Stay at our contracted hotels. Eat our contracted food. Get our contracted medical benefits. Get our contracted move packages. All without paying union dues.
What really ****es me off is the amount of the increase in MEF. Simply confused!!

JUP,
The Union keeps track of MEF flying and can verify your suspicions. I rarely fly days, but I've been jumpseating in the afternoons and there does seem to be a NURP increase. Hopefully our guys are being displaced versus MEF

Heard the same - something about hard landings and other incidents which is why the FAA wants them to fly more/get more experience.
Then again, not sure why the Feds would ever care? Shouldn't be that difficult to come up with a "cargo hard landing" carve-out rule...
PS.
All the new manglers needed 100 hours to get off high mins which might explain some of the additional MEFs.

If its MEF, no one is being displaced ... it means there are too few reserves to cover the hiccups that occur in the system. Reserves are already busy covering the known open time and normal sick calls.

Looking at the dates, I suspect the increase is a direct result of the the weather events this year.
