You don't really need much in the pre start phase.. But I highly suggest getting the LMS done.. It crashes, pauses and sometimes doesn't record completion. If you really still want to study and memorize stuff.. Phase ones and limitations. I wouldn't go much past that unless you really, really like pain then maybe the maneuvers section of the QRH. But keep that as light reading browse over stuff..

Only things I found helpful beyond one pass through LMS were:

Flap speeds: Yep..they are placarded, but in a busy phase of flight trying to clean up or slow down it was nice to not have to look across cockpit to QC the speeds. Takes 5 minutes to learn, and flaps up, 5, 20, and 30 are where you do 90% of the work anyway.

FMA symbology. Knowing what the mode was actually doing (particularly with power) was helpful. Am in in THRH or EPR, VNAV ALT or VNAV Speed, etc. This will be beaten up in the PV phase but a little of your own study might be helpful.

Otherwise--relax. You are going to be shepherded through the flow. Best advice is get your LIFE In order before training, because its loooonnnngggg. If you can minimize the home distractions you should find it relatively easy and straight forward.

Not sure about the 75 now, but for the 767 guys the training letter indicates over 3 months to completion.

Kind of like the MD11 "death by LOFT" 16 or 17 years ago.

And throughout the building all you could hear was Albie saying, "Thank you sir, may I have another!"

Eight weeks from first event to last sim for me.

Then four weeks to get 757 IOE done.

Then three weeks to get 767 SLF done. Grand total of four months.

And you get to do it all again if you upgrade. No short course on the 767.

Don't trust the footprint on the 757 training web page. Hud takes an extra week; international school and lofts takes another.

Somebody asked about 75 training and you all start complaining about the extra crap for the 76.

I stand by my observation:

75 training is the shortest course I have ever been through at FedEx even with the extra 4 weeks off during IOE due to instructor shortage!

LMS, Phase unos and limitations., that's all I would look at.

Less is more in this case because they will spoon feed you the necessary systems knowledge as you go. You have probably heard, this program does not teach you how to engineer reversible motor pumps, it simply teaches you what to do if a light comes on in the cockpit.

Relax and enjoy!

Class start 16 Mar. IOE 757 complete 10 June. Lots of 3-4 day breaks.

767 SLF started the next week with 1 day of differences and 4 legs at the end of the week. Scheduled end was 20 June. That's a 103 day footprint.

Unfortunately, someone failed to chock a cart with a can properly, and last Friday while I was at the hub meeting the wind caught the can and blew it into that nice, new, 767 waiting for my last 2 legs... Airplane strike=gauge change=no SLF flight that day. With a house closing (refi), vehicle sale, dentist and doctor appts, a domestic move and the Hong Kong mover all going on the next 10 days, I asked to have the last SLF flight delayed for 10 days. There is simply too many events scheduled (thinking training would be done) to move. That rolexes the footprint to about 112-115 days. I never had a sick instructor or a broken sim, but as tightly as things are wound if you are going to the 75/76 I think you can expect to be in training for a while. If I were king I'd just add HUD/EVAS into the program and use it all along, and I think that's the plan...but its still pending.

Only had 2 legs in 767, but flying over the Grand Canyon in the left seat had me thinking it was worth the trouble. Thanks to Jethro and the fine cadre of guys who helped me along the way...
