UPS Online Assesment?

I understand the logic somewhat but is it really worse than a new hire on the panel for a few years that goes to that widebody slot? At least the other guy would be coming in current in flying something.

Razor, acutally no message left. I had my damn phone set to vibrate while at work and missed it by 3 minutes. I only know it was them because I recognize the number. I have a feeling they called us all Wed. I have waited my whole career for that call! Anyway, I will just wait patiently for them to call again.

I got stuck in WX for the last two days. I flew 15.5 hours in the last two days so I wouldn't know if they ever tried calling. Why do you think they'll call us all (I am assuming you mean those that have had assessments, etc) on Wednesday? I hope you're right!!

First off you won't get any argument from me about how the process is FUBAR. I think it is better than having to pay to apply though.
But what is wrong with UPS going after guys with heavy, international experience? As a tanker pilot, I've dragged you guys around the world literally. Your international experience is mainly limited to cycling across the boom. Flying the exact same flight plan from Al Udeid to Iraq is not really intl experience. It's really no different than if it was being done over Texas. How many approaches to mins have you done in Asia, Europe or anywhere? How many times have you gone from meters to feet and QFH/QFE etc. on the same approach? It's not the hardest thing in the world and I am sure you could do it but the fact remains you lack that experience. So don't blame the HR folks because you are not getting the call. It sucked being in the USAF with it being run by fighter pilots that knew little about Strat Air or Air Refueling. It's ironic you are having the same type of complaint now.
I expect a lot of arrows will be coming my way. Let me make one final point. At UPS the MD-11 and 747-400s at ANC will be going very junior. There will likely be 3d or 4th year captains up there soon. Some of these guys, like me, will be coming off of the 727/DC-8 domestic reserve and will have only a few hundred hours of flight time at UPS. It could be disasterous if you took a new capt paired with a newhire who came from fighters and sent them around the world together.
FWIW, we are hiring a lot of guys without heavy, intl experience. But we are targeting the Atlas, Gemini, USAF heavy type experience and I don't see anything wrong with it. You chose fighters not heavies so why complain about it now?

Has anyone seen the highlights of Ottawa-Buffalo NHL game of last night ?
Now that was a fight. Even the goalie removed his gloves.

L'il J,
Wow!!! I wasn't expecting this one from you.
Well, first of all you took my post a little personal. I don't bash on tanker guys or heavy guys. Many of my friends are flying heavies. I know that NKAWTG...
Al Udeid to Iraq, approaches to min, lack of experience.... etc. How would you know? Have we flown together...?
- It sucked being in the USAF with it being run by fighter pilots - Let me tell you, that's not my fault, and btw I have been in the guard my whole career. I wouldn't put up with those guys either, why do you think I'm trying to get in with UPS?
- You chose fighters not heavies so why complain about it now? - I'm not complaining, I just know that the UPS hiring process has been quite difficult to keep up with. And btw, as far as I remember, they way it was done at UPT when I was there, usually the top ranked guys in the class will pick fighters (I know a few that picked heavies, not the norm though). You should ask most of the pilot trainees out there what they really wanted to fly.
No harm, no foul. My intent is not to start a heavy / fighter argument in here. I just want to know what else needs to be done to be able to get an interview with UPS.
...Cheers,

Don Q,
Mine is what happens when you don't reread your post. Kind of like when loading up a route of flight and you inadvertently place a "W" instead of an "E" and end up on the wrong side of the planet. Not that I did not mean it, but I certainly should not have directed it towards you.
Best of luck to you and all the fighter dudes getting hired wherever you choose.

I agree. They say they want people on the widebodies with heavy, international time and I understand that. However, when I got hired, all of us didn't have heavy, international time and we went to the panel and then upgraded to FO. Some people went to the MD11 and it didn't matter what experience you had, if you could hold the bid, you got it.
