Wow. Jealous?

CB,

Like Huck, I don't know our new chief pilot from Adam. I'm sure he'll probably do fine. However, my comment to you was written because I really don't like to be lectured about what's good for this crew force by someone who hasn't been here all that long. Most people I know would have to work for someone for a good long time to be able to make the pronouncement that you made. But I guess you're much more astute than the rest of us, because you can figure out what's best for FedEx in only 4 months.

Your comment "You dont have to be a dog to judge a dog show" is quite true.... however, you do need to know and understand the standards for each breed, if you are going to judge a dog show. Probably the same holds true for the selection of a chief pilot. But then again, what do I know. It's late and I've missed my warm milk and nap.

"What has OR been flying....trying to put a face with the name"

My understanding is he has been a A300 flex prior to the 757 gig. Not a lot of line time from what I have heard. I do not know if he has any international time here at all. Not that line time and international time are needed for the job but I think it would helped him have a bigger idea of what we are doing out here.

Probably so, but in fairness, I don't think that Jack had international long haul time when he became the CP. He did have, however, lots of line flying, although most of it was between Memphis and Norfolk.

You mean when he was "part of the problem" by camping out on the 727 when he could have been a wide body Capt?

No, that's not what I meant. I also didn't interpret Jacks' email to mean that he had a problem with Boeing captains not bidding the widebodies. My personal feeling is that once a guy checks out as captain, he has fulfilled the companys "requirement." When I was interviewed, as most of us, I was told that FedEx hires captains. They never said "widebody captains." I have absolutely no issue with guys camping out in any captain seat. But that's just me.

So let me see if I have this straight. From what you're saying, seniority and time breathing O2 on Democrat road is a better indicator of whether someone's a good guy, rather than actually knowing and working with the person. Even if it's "only for 4 months".

Give the guy a break. A little fresh blood can be a refreshing thing now and then.

After all, the distance between the pinnacle of seniority and Alzheimers can be pretty skinny sometimes.

From Jack's "First Officer Missive", dated 10Oct07:

"One last thought……if you could hold Memphis wide-body Captain for more than two years, haven't bid a Captain seat, and don't want to, you're part of the problem….. hang up your stripes. It's not a part-time job…we can't use part-time help. "

I interpret it differently. But I don't have the advantage of 60+ yrs of wisdom!

"Haven't bid a Captain seat". I think what he's saying is that if you're senior enough to be able to hold wide-body captain, but are still an f/o, then, in his opinion, you're part of the problem. That would suggest, at least to me, that he is understanding of guys who don't want to bid 727 captain and be at the bottom of the list. However, once they can hold wide-body captain, they will be senior enough (again in his opinion) to hold a narrow-body captain slot at some "reasonable" percentage. Again, that's my interpretation, but I'm sticking with it. It has nothing to do with 60+ years of wisdom (or lack thereof, as my wife can attest to), only my understanding of the english language.

Well ... I'm glad that CB says OR is a good guy but it looks like he's another management guy that really has never flown the line very much. That DOESN'T mean that he won't turn out to be a good guy and a good SCP. A little bit of detective work says he only has ~1000hrs of Airbus Capt. time and ~2350hrs of 727 f/o time (and that's just about it except for a hand full of 757 Capt hrs and about 800hrs 727 s/o).
