. . . do you really have any negative personal experience with your respective ACPs? All I can say is that on the ONE occasion that I had a family emergency and turned to my ACP for assistance(JS); before I got the words out of my mouth to ask for some bereavement time off.....he removed me from the flight schedule and said I simply needed to give him a call when I was ready to go back to work.
I have other stories, but I'll spare the details.
I'm glad your experiences have been so positive -- you're the rare exception.
I can personally identify quite a few pilots I have flown with who taxi like they're late for the prom, wear the wannabe fu-manchu moustache or wear some bizarre ties and constantly push the envelope before an ACP reaches out to let them know their performance is unacceptable.

Perhaps it's the job description that needs to be refined. Is the ACP or SCP an advocate of the pilot to the company, or the mouthpiece of the company to the pilot, or both? When the answer is the second choice, we've got plenty of reason to be annoyed.
I was told, when my "family emergency" occurred (death of my father), that I was entitled to 3 days off for bereavement (that got me to the day of the funeral), and if I needed more time, to call in sick. (That was pre-contract.)
I have other stories, but I'll spare the details.

I hope you spoke to them directly to rectify the problem, and talked to Professional Standards if that didn't fix it. If we let problems reach the point where an ACP is needed, we have failed ourselves.

Tony loves everybody, even when he's unhappy with them.
We have a pretty good set of CPs and a much better relationship with them than at many other airlines. I think we as a pilot group hold them to pretty high standards for their actions. Sure, some will always ***** about them, some will always defend them to the death; most appreciate their position and give them the bene of the doubt. Are there exceptions to my first statement, of course, there are exceptions to everything; but on the whole, it's pretty good.
It could be lots worse!! Especially at the top. We've got it good for now, lets hope it continues in the near future.

She was fired when she got back to MEM if memory serves and yes it was on the spot in a meeting with her ACP and SCP. That's just the way FredEx rolled back then. They fired 5 or 6 Captains around the same time for taxiing too slow and they all got their jobs back as well.

You obviously never had RF (God rest his soul), T "We ain't crashed one yet" F or C "I was an All American at UT and a Blue Angel" W as your ACP. I had all 3, and all 3 were bad, with CW being the worst. You and I could kill a 6 pack before I run out of personal CW experiences.

Agreed, and most of the folks we have in those jobs today are lightyears better than those mentioned from earlier times!
