UPS Class, Part 2

With this new computer filtering process I wonder how much, if any good it does to meet and greet the folks from HR at the job fair. Hopefully shaking hands and talking with HR folks still counts for something, but you have to wonder.
With the computer picking folks for the interview, I wonder if anyone from HR can tell it to pick up a certain person?

Not at all. The computer only filters,(example: don't meet the minimums, program won't allow you access to the online application until you do). If you meet mins, humans look at all applicants, HR humans decide who to online test. Computer does its online test with applicant. HR humans look at results of the computer filter (I don't know anything about the online testing-no gouge here from me). When I talked to HR today, only mentioned it was a 'cost' UPS paid to have done on selected applicants (obviously those they took an interest in interviewing). After online testing, they again looked at the results, matched up to future hiring as I already posted. Done by HR humans. Those people are the ones you see at job fairs. So would I still go to job fairs? Absolutely! Why? because they will likely compare those folks to the ones passing through their UPS corporate mandated computer program and select those one for interview if they presented well at the job fair.
Congrats Slice, you are a prime example of the value of job fair in person who sells themself for further consideration. As a matter of fact, I'd bet that is the only legitimate way one could get a paper copy of a resume back to SDF and make it for consideration. (Still go through the online process)

Thanks SD. I have to admit I was a skeptic prior to attending but was urged to by a friend hired at Brown last year. I was beginning to think it was all a waste when a little over 2 months later I got the call. I met Phil D at the fair(stood in line twice to do so)...2 other guys interviewed with me at UPS. PL and BT were in everyone's session. I had PD in mine in addition to the others and was the only one hired that day. I don't think it was a coincidence he showed up...

Congrats Slice. Glad to see the job fair thing worked for you. Can't argue with results.
And thanks for the info SD. I'll pass that along to some of my buds. Early last year I met BT at a job fair and brought that up during the interview 6 months later. He didn't remember me as I'm sure he'd seen plenty of faces since then, but ya never know if reminding him helped out that little extra bit.
