Going out with Woody in Olongapo has a funny ring to it!
Any chance you could check on my certificate at the SFS course?

I've sat reserve for neer 20 years and can count on one hand the number of 1 hour callouts I've had. Every time there wasn't even a plane or other crewmember yet when I got there. The caveat to that though is if they have a Lear waiting for you, which has happened twice. When they give you a 1 hour callout my favorite silence to hear is when you ask them if they have any standbys. I believe they have to launch them first to activate the 1 hour call out. Anybody know of a change on that in the new contract? Also with the new availability window in vips you have a pretty good idea if a call is coming, but it is a risk and if you're on probation you're an at will employee.

availability window
Bitme, what window are you referring to? Do you mean the leveling window? From what I've been able to see, it's not much different from the old one; granted, you can see what other reserve guys are assigned, (if they don't block their schedule) but it isn't updated any more often than before. Today's leveling was updated yesterday at 18:13 cst, so we have no information on what went on during the AM launch; ie I could be next on the call list and still would'nt know it. Or am I missing something?

When I was on the 10 panel I was short called at LEAST twice a month. Always to where it was raining or snowing. The retreads set their alarms for 11:30 pm, wake up and check the weather channel, then call in if they don't feel like going.

if you're on reserve, you never know....I once got 3 one hour call-outs in the same month. Granted, it was December in the middle of peak; but to answer the question, it boils down to whether you're willing to roll the dice. The previous post has a valid point, as well;
1:10 assumes ready to roll and not dead asleep and totally comatose when the friendly phone call comes.

I sit RB in A-300 left and I get a 1 hr call once a month.
I would recommend waiting until you can hold a line, or do 24hr reserve before you move down there, for two reasons.
1) Contract says 1 hr with no stby's.
Let's face it, when the company conspires to disregard the contract, or float in the gray areas we cry like infants. Let's not be hypocrites.
2) It is the right thing to do.
Having said that, the schedulers are not A-holes, and I am sure you could finesse your way out of a jam at the expense of a friendly scheduler. The fact remains, if a scheduler is "asked" why he didn't get a warm body out there in 1 hour, he will have to write an IR or get in trouble him/herself.
