I’ve been reading over several pages of this thread dating back to 2016. I imagine things are a little different.

Can anyone who has gone through training recently give me a timeframe of what to expect, as well as:

Is the systems test still day 1?
Do we provide our own airfare?
How much per diem could one expect on top of the $500/week pay?
Are washout rates still as high as they were back in 2016-2018 according to what I have read?
Part 121 is new for me, how exactly is the type ride accomplished? Oral one day, then maneuvers, then loft?

Does anyone know what aircraft need to be filled in the March class by chance?

Hello everyone,

With the US pulling out of Afghanistan and Iraq, what is the flying looking like at OMNI? Has it slowed done drastically? Or has it increased since the demand for air travel is back? Hope everyone flys safe.

This hasn't changed Omni's operations.

Do we provide our own airfare? I don't remember. I want to say the company bought airfare to training.

Part 121 is new for me, how exactly is the type ride accomplished? Oral one day, then maneuvers, then loft? Oral is prior to the sim check-ride. Then the sim eval and LOFT.

They're asking for us to fly open trips during what historically is a less busy month. In short, we've got more work than pilots. No flying shortage whatsoever. Our management is very good at keeping the planes busy.

Wow. Sounds like an awesome job. I love flying. I had an Omni aircraft take me back and forth to Kuwait during my deployments to Iraq. Thank you for the quick response.

Almost a 50% washout rate seems high.

Several years ago, prior to the existing contract, it was more than 50%. The current contract went a long way in attracting quality applicants. The washout rate has decreased to nearly zero. The training program is fair but certainly takes a commitment from the individual to complete. Everyone here wants to see people succeed, but it won't be handed to you.

I'd be interested to see some sort of evidence of this washout rate. In my class the washout rate was zero, and the training was thorough but no one was out to get you.

EIR10 already gave some good answers. I'll just throw some more in.

Systems test like a written? I don't even remember that but I feel like we did something towards the end of systems ground. You will however be expected to have a pretty solid grasp on things when you show up. The CBT's will be assigned before heading to Dallas and you're expected to have them all complete upon arrival. Again I don't remember but I bet its like 60+ hours worth of CBT courses.

Yes you get yourself to DFW or Tulsa for the interview. Company takes it from there.

Washout rates are not 50%. Maybe subjective from class to class. These days it seems like if you put in a good effort you will do just fine. Study and at least look like you really want it. The only ones I've seen let go are bad attitudes and know it all's or just simply a55holes.

Oral is after FBS training. Which is after ground school and indoc. Then progress on to full flight. After those sessions, I forget how many sessions, I think 6 or 8? (Someone else on here knows) Then the check ride. Then LOFT's and such.

We need pilots for both fleets. A lot of pilots with one foot out the door.

Skypilot is correct, in the past around the 16-18 times, new hire washouts were very common, as well as the washes for upgrade. Then again, at the time they were very desperate for CAs, most weren’t qualified for it, mainly due to time but those that did go for upgrade didn’t make it because they simply had no business to be in the left seat and I think the training department does a good job of justifying the outcomes. On the other hand, there have been talks of people not being ready for upgrade due to lack of training. I will tell you right now, we have a widespread, unstructured training program but after flying the line for after a year, you should and will feel ready for the upgrade. Staying in the books the constantly change is a huge part of it, flying the airplane is the easy part.

There is no systems test, at least there has not been for at least 3 years. Airfare is taken care of upon the company, to and from training, and then once you’re on the line, from your gateway. $500/week+perdiem until your PC, then you’re on the 64hr/month guarantee.

As far as the type ride, I can’t speak for everyone as I was typed already but for the most part, run through the overhead panel, generic systems questions and then into the sim…run around JFK shooting approaches, missed, single engine. Really, a cake-walk if you’ve ever been in the sim for a 121 type ride. You won’t see anything on the ride that you haven’t seen in the sim already. Nobody here is out to get anybody. Simply put, don’t be a dick and don’t act like you know everything. If you avoid that, you’ll be out flying the line with zero problems and enjoying life.
