Get the book "Blue Ocean Strategy." They mention Net Jets a number of times. Also, a good but long winded read is some of Porters books. Googgle on Porters Five Forces.
I have worked in the Part 135 field with C-172, Barons, Cheiftains, Lears 24/25 and HS-125-700. But that was many years ago. Recently I have done ops, training and other manuals and documentation for 135 startups.
Send me a PM. I am in CT.

Sure and that crappy business school in Cambridge told Fred Smith that there was NFW Fedex would work, and while your at it please let the people at Cape Air in on the fact that there's no Winter flying, and they shouldn't have 27 lines out of HYA alone.
There are a lot of 135 certificates around that have become dormant however I don't know if they actually expire. That in itself would reduce a lot of time and effort if you could actually place your hands on one.
Not only could you focus on one specific market type but several market types, having the capability to move equipment as the seasons change if so inclined. Read about PBA and Van Arsdale.

Don't listen to these idiots. Unfortunately, there are always going to be people who expect life to be handed to them; I applaud your motivation. Best of luck.

Don't pay any attention to the smart-a$$e$. These aviation forums seem to be like a porch bug light to those types. If you believe you're on to something then go for it. Good luck. I loved flying part 135.

Maybe the "smart a$$e$" were trying to save him some money?
As someone that regularly flies into Nantucket I wish you the best of luck. Between service from Mesaba, CommutAir, and Cape along with the ridiculous number of GA aircraft you'll see there on any given day, the market is pretty busy. Not to say you couldn't find some potential clients, but you'd need to basically undercut your competition to do it. Not something that's easily done by a start-up.
Good luck, you're going to need it.

Make sure you understand the regulations very well. Your new ideas may very well not exist already because of regulations that are in place... But you won't tell us so I can't help you with that
I have about 10 years of New England flying experience so let me know if you have any questions.

Mike,
Someone is going to run a Air Taxi business - there is no reason it cannot be you. But I would recommend getting a private and commercial ticket and flying for a few years concurrent with your business research and preparation. Try to fly the routes you would like to operate in, and get to know the folks that are doing it and make some connections. This is itself will be very hard to do with hundreds of others looking for flying jobs also.
Don't dwell on the negative comments, but do heed them - its a very tough business model and lots of people have lost a lot of $$$$$ trying to figure it out.
Good luck!
