Ok, here's a serious question; how much start up capital do you envision for your project?

Just an FYI here is a list of a few carriers that do established runs to MVY/ACK to NE/NYC on a regular basis.

Cape Air (their bread and butter)
Island Airlines (Large market share)
Reliant Air
Linear Air
Tradewinds
Commutair (United)
Colgan (Airways)
Mesaba (Delta)
JetBlue
Plus a whole bunch of other On-Demand operators with everything from light singles to jets....

Its a highly competitive market....

I'd really like to be positive but I flew for the defunct Independence Air - A revolution in air travel. Better, Cheaper, different. No one wants to drive to BWI to fly on Southwest. Again, I'm a glass half full kinda guy that would love to see the underdog make it.

Mike 400, I am 22 and currently in college working towards my Markting major and Flight Operations minor. We have very similar mindsets, I have been studying the Air Taxi/Charter industry that past 2 years and have many ideas for creating a new a unique company. I grew up in New England in the suburbs outside of New York close proximity to Westchester County Airport, a promiseland for Air Taxi. Respond if you wish to speak more on this.

You could basically describe the NE air travel industry as being baptized in dirty water... every flight school, FBO, etc offers some type of air transportation service. Concentrate on real growing markets... my rare 2 cents.

If you are going to risk money on a venture like this, make sure it is somebody else's money.

I looked into this as well feeding into a ski resort in Colorado operating just like Seaport Airlines does. No TSA security. There is lots for you to research. Writing a part 135 flight operations manual is pretty involved and the certification of it. Start reading part 135 in the FARs. You'll find hurdles. But keep pressing.

The other thing is you'll need lots of cash to start. You won't be able to get a loan for an airplane or even if you already had an airplane, it is likely you'll have no chance of persuading a bank to give you start up cash. And if you do find investors their the ones that'll make the money. Not you. You'll be managing operations 12 hours a day 7days per week keeping the business afloat and sending your investors paychecks every month making "them" rich.
