40-60 hours a month... about 500/year. (400-600ish) You very rarely break guarantee... where you make the extra scratch is selling your days off and flying on them. Compared to 'Brand X' regional - esp. FO pay, they compensate you very well at USA Jet.

I took a dispatch class in college and our instructor was a dispatcher at USA, she mentioned a lot of JANKEY stuff went on there that wasn't exactly SAFE. She also said for us to stay away ha.

And... I can see why someone would get comfortable at a regional and never want to leave. I love having an average of 2-3 short legs a day with long overnights in great hotels
I don't know about what happened in the past, but the flight operations are very safe... and the experience that you get is invaluable. The DC-9 is a rocketship, esp. bulked out (of plastic parts) for the latest and greatest Ford or GM.

The interview is a combination oral interview and a series of written tests. (study the ASVAB/AFOQT type stuff) Not the 'Ornstein Mirror Interview.'

Be aware....They do not just want you to fly the DC-9....They want you to LOAD AND UNLOAD IT.....With NO EXTRA COMPENSATION....

So Be aware...you will not only be a pilot....You WILL be a Cargo Handler also.....

Not Interested.
Yes you do... occasionally. The FO's are expected to tie down the freight as a matter of course, (remember Fine Air - it's your skin, even when the 'loaders' did all the work, I checked it... twice) but if you 'load or unload' it's something like $100 for each. Welcome to the on-demand freight world... yes, it's a better deal in the DA-20. Less room, less work. (loading 15,000# for the same pay as someone gets to 3000# in a DA-20 can seem somewhat unfair) If you don't like it, then it's not for you.

Leveraged buyout gone bad plus reduced flying because of Europe. AMC reductions don't help.

Occasionally you may have to service the lav panel on the DC-9's.

Nope... they took all the LAV's out of the cargo birds. However, we ask if you do take a leak in the plane, please bring your Gatoraid bottle in and throw it away - or expect it in to be in your mailbox when you come to work next.

On PAX ops, I was never asked to touch anything back there.

Seriously, the job is not for everyone. Keep it to the facts please... If you don't want to work there or don't like it... that's fine. They don't want you too. I enjoyed my time there and would still be working there if a better opportunity didn't present itself. The place has it's problems... but when it comes to 121 Supplemental - they really are one of the best operations out there. Or even the best. To some, I can see how this would be the same argument as 'what is the best regional' or 'which sewer would be the best to swim in.'

Sometimes in life we all are not given jobs at Eastern or Pan Am (or pick your legacy of choice...) right out of flight school and due to life circumstances we have to take different paths in our careers. USA Jet was good to me, and I would go back if my current job somehow imploded. Yes, they make you do things that you wouldn't do at any passenger air carrier... but this is Suppplemental. There isn't a huge support structure that you would have at a major airline. You. Are. It.

To anyone who is interested... feel free to PM me and I will be happy to answer any questions about the place to the best of my ability.

Just show up and take the test.

It's actually much harder to load a falcon and anyone who flew the line knows that which calls into question your credibility.

That's fine... question all you want. I never flew the Falcon. All I know is that I was compensated the same amount to load thousands of more pounds than the falcon pilots - at more risk to my back/health/welfare. (Because the few times I was given loading pay in the -9, I was black from head to toe covered in cargo dirt from huge and unruly transmission/muffler racks or something as equally insane - not a couple of tires or boxes of plastic parts.) If B.M. is still there, ask him... he would agree with me.
