I'll give you guys a good example of scheduling at Atlas. I'm a somewhat senior 76 capt. I bid back to back reserve lines and the company is obligated to build 5 days off in between so I don't end up doing 34 days straight.
I should have used a GDO day in hindsight; but, didn't and this is what happened: Scheduling just extended me 3 days into my 5 days off, so I will be on the road 34 days straight with just 48 hours off. I do not live in base, so this is obviously not even enough time to gateway home and do laundry and pay the bills.
I called scheduling and tried to reason with them and they basically told me to shove it. Now my only way to get some time at home is if I happen to become sick, in which case, I will not only lose sick days, I will lose about 15 hours of CRT.
This NOT the life I have chosen and will not continue to be treated like this from crew scheduling. I am updating my logbook as we speak. Just telling you the way it is over here.
This place is turning into a circus in my opinion. I would avoid Atlas and look at Fed Ex, UPS or one of the majors before even thinking about coming here.

So here you are on the other end of the phone asking them to prove something. They put you on hold, sched supervisor comes back and says, "Hello Pilot, if we don't have you on this flight then there's nobody available for 7 hrs which will result in 3 downline delays yada yada yada...."
Doesn't sound convincing to you....But it's "necessary" for them.

Phoenix, You're exactly right. I went down that road; they told me to pound sand and said that it was critical to the operation. It's worded in such a way that their definition of the above verbiage always wins. We need to tighten up the wording in our next contract and get rid of language such as "best effort" and things of that nature.

I am JFK 747. Most of the trips are 6-16 days.
BUT, I've had a 1 day trip, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, etc. all the way to 17 days. Then, I've bid for two back-to-back lines and gone 32 days in a row, to get the days off I wanted (I did two weeks of family vacation, without using any vacation days).
The "GDO" is a Guaranteed Day Off. We get 5 per year, and I believe you can't use them in Oct/Nov/Dec. If you use it at the end of your trip, they have to get you home. The union is asking us to use more of them, so we get home when it is important. Note: They cant extend you if you are on a regular line, without any type of reserve.
You can call scheduling and ask for whatever you want. I have had very good results travelling to/from airports other than my Gateway at the beginning and endings of my trips.

So if I live within 130 miles from my base, say JFK, but I'm closer to PHL, and my first leg is a DH, would scheduling change my DH to be out of PHL?
