Don’t be so confident when it comes to who suffers the most at this point. Not that long ago XJT pilots had some compelling reasons why they would be the survivors. They were wrong. The UAX fleet is going to be at least 200 aircraft smaller and further reductions in the single class 50 seat lift will most likely occur. Any remaining single class 50 seat lift will just be a temporary stay of execution as demand recovers and the fleet ages. The people who decide who gets to live and who doesn’t work in the Willis Tower, they don’t look out for employee wellbeing when making business decisions, and they don’t post here.

Being that UA isn’t repainting any zw aircraft in the new colors or adding WiFi or anything that makes one wonder .I think the decision has already been made .

But is truely WiFi? I thought it was “personal device entertainment”. Then again the personal device has to connect to somewhere to stream the content so maybe it is WiFi or it could be an onboard database akin to the database stored in the EGPWS box.

I’ve also wondered this myself. How many C5 aircraft are repainted percentage wise to Skywest? I don’t think RPA has any repainted ones because they have the older Embraers too, right? So I suppose that can be used as a indication but still kind of a crapshoot.

Who operates what remains of the fleet in the interim and during the wind down period is an open question and C5 certainly has a recruiting and retention problem that is exacerbated by this announcement. My best guess is the aircraft will be operated by the carrier who can staff them.
If another United partner starts up a 145 program I would panic, until then I would assume C5 is no worse off then they were before this announcement. Wouldn't it be nice if the network carriers driving this whipsaw would provide career progression guarantees for all of their contract carrier pilots? Since they do not there is serious risk for non Aviate pilots to remain at C5 and ZW particularly but that risk has always existed and will continue to exist for any pilot.

Does United own the ZW fleet? I think not but I am unsure. United is making an investment in a portion of the fleet they own. It stands to reason they will operate the aircraft they are putting money into the longest and sell the rest. Eventually every 50 seater needs to be retired simply due to age and there is no replacement currently in production.
