In regards to the turbulence situation, that really sucks for the crew. And I think they were blindsided as well, I heard rides were reported to only be light chop in their area, then all of a sudden got rocked.
None of what I’m saying here is intended to fault the crew. I can’t say I would’ve done any different decision making than they did. Just want to give some info that might be helpful to others. I always look at turbulenceforecast.com before each flight. It compiles all the govt charts into an easier to use website, and has international charts as well so you can look at Mexico etc. The max turbulence potential charts are great, and give a fairly accurate depiction at different altitudes. Sometimes things are still unpredictable but this is very helpful. And to top this all off, we do need to be using more of the iPad capabilities. A GA pilot with Foreflight and an ads-b receiver gets a wealth of info we can’t get inflight. TL;DR if you have time a quick look online can help. Wish we could use more of the iPad’s potential. |

Thanks bookmarked. I use Wx Graphics app. It's essentially aviationweather.gov but for mobile devices. Lord knows trying to access that site on the phone blows.
I’ll check out that app |
