Taco / excargo are good dudes. I'll take their military stories over negative nancy bantering. We all came to Compass with a background that involved paying dues. Compass has been good to all of us, even Hawk and Week. We just got to be good to each other.

The internet round of beer is on me tonight boyz! We'll pour some out for the homies, Poser765 & FlytheSky. Lost but not forgotten.

Ah thanks that is good to know.

FlyingKat, I'm guessing you are a TSA pilot? If so, just curious, since the new F9 TA, how low on the seniority list has the flow gone for you guys?

Initially it was very Junior, as low as 2015 hires. Once the new contract came in it has gone very senior. For some reason (cough cough) all the senior guys seem to be bailing out of STL and the lifers are hitting the silk with this flow. The February flows were 2001 hires, March flows are both 1999 hires and I've heard the flows for the next few months are very senior. One flow in May is a 1995 hire. I know a 1996 hire was turned down for attendance, and our DO who is a 2003 hire is flowing in June. Supposedly there are 45 who have put in for the flow but the top 15 are all pretty senior (top third) of the list. As the senior guys flow more senior guys are putting their names in so it is hard to say how long based on that list. If the company only flows two a month I would say it will probably be a year and a half before you see flows below 2007 hires, maybe longer. Guys are trying to bail to other places as well so you never know. But everyone is trying to get the heck out of here.

One time I did 95mph on the freeway and got a ticket, this too must count as paying my dues for a regional upgrade!

You argue that it’s wrong to patronize someone about paying their dues because “pilots in the past had it worse”, and yet imply that Hawk’s argument is invalid because “we had it worse in the military”. Seems a little funny.

The army was a choice, perhaps not a wise one if you wanted a career in 121. A few months ago I was in your spot just as sour that I needed to fly 1500 cpz for the upgrade and I got equally roasted here for it. Perhaps just continue flying and doing your best, upgrading in 1.5 years isn’t so bad. Lately every post from you two is something about how the military makes you different. Perhaps spend some time reading about the “tool of the day”, usually military service is the common demoninator

I'm not complaining about the Army QOL, but I think it is funny people try to leverage their dues vs mine because we came in at a different time. As for joking about the lack of a snack basket that is, get this... a joke! You know, those things people used to tell before everyone got offended by everything.

As for your stupid decision to do 95 on the freeway, congratulations?

When it comes to patronizing, I didn't start that argument. I said, "If that's what it takes, I'll just keep putting in my time and pay my dues..." and got called out for it. I want to move up, like everyone else, so of course I want to upgrade and start working on my TPIC. My idea of paying dues differs because I think of it as knowing your job and doing it well, among other things. But apparently that isn't good enough to some, because I didn't have to sit reserve. And sitting is the best way to pay your dues, from what I hear.

Since you want to go there, lets talk about QOL and paying your dues. He complains about flying 15 hours a month on reserve. In the '60 community our minimums were 8 hours a month. When not flying we had additional duties to do, not watch TV, not play on the Internet, not chill at home if you live close enough. We worked. And I can't speak about other units, but in mine when deployed we worked 12 hours a day, 14 days straight to get one day off, then do it again. Reserve? Sounds like a cake walk. And while in combat zones and getting shot at, taking incoming, not seeing family, not going home I still had it fairly easy compared to many. One night I remember well is when the base took incoming four different times. Having gotten so used to it I wasn't even ****ed they were trying to kill us, I was ****ed because they kept waking me up. QOL and paying dues? Please tell me more about how hard reserve life is. And tell it to my buddy's wife who no longer has a husband, whose kids no longer have a father. The base I was on had a good defensive system, the FOB he went to didn't. He took incoming and was killed two weeks after getting there. Is a strange feeling when you fly to that FOB knowing that is where it happened. All said and done, great experience and I'd do it again. Let's hear how "miserable" reserve life is at CP

So again, I want to move up like everyone else. I'll pay my dues by doing my job, not by sitting on my ass.

After a year of being on reserve at Compass, I felt like I needed to be more productive. That's when I made an APC acct :)

Taco280AI 03-25-2019 09:52 AM

Hahaha... and we all thank you for it!

ClimbOne 03-25-2019 10:15 AM

I wouldn't call it 'paying your dues', because times are different now than they have been over the past 15 years, almost entirely for the better.

I'd call it 'getting the required experience'; first and foremost in a multi-engine airplane if you're coming from helicopters, secondly in a Part 121 operation.

But if getting that required experience before upgrading is nothing more than 'paying your dues', I guess anything short of DEC is a disappointment.

We all want to move up and move on, but we should all want to do it safely.

No, you totally screwed that up. You're definitely not getting the regional upgrade. You needed the DUI, not the reckless driving while sober.
