8 Captain upgrades for July? We are losing 15 captains a month which will increase in the summer, last vacancy we only awarded like half of the target upgrades, leaving a deficit, and now we are going to only upgrade 8, in the middle of our summer flying season?

The company is trying to save money on payroll, in violation of the CBA.

The Company will employ a sufficient number of Pilots to
cover all known Flying, vacation, sick leave, scheduled training, Company-related business, known leaves of absence and other known unavailabilities, and staff the
operation so as not to unduly disrupt the schedules of Lineholders and will maintain an adequate number of reserves to cover unforeseen operational needs, to avoid the frequent modification of schedules of Lineholders, and to avoid excessive junior manning.

The company has been in violation of this for years. It’s not fair that lineholders that should be getting days off are stuck working coverage trips instead of being with their families. The company is making NO effort to correct this and should be forced to pay a heavy price for this willfull violation.

If they can continue to profit by running thin and treating their employees like slaves, and dodging any punishment/minimizing any grievance pay, they will continue to do exactly what they’re doing.

Every single pilot at this company is affected by this and every single one of you should be emailing the union about this.

Same book, same story just a different page. This is the same thing that happened 2-3 yrs ago. Obviously if they could upgrade max capacity they would. But don’t forget, the company also has to make sure the ca to fo ratio is somewhat neutral. Otherwise we will be hearing that stupid “right seat qualified ca” bs again

The vacancy bid has always amazed me when it comes out and I see like 2 or 3 sometimes zero SEA FO positions available. I think how is this possible when as an FO in SEA I have never been able to drop a single trip in a year and a half. Oh well, obviously the company knows more than I do when they decide to do certain things that make no sense to everyone else besides them.

I've seen this same cycle repeat itself about three times since coming here. "Oh my God! We don't have enough captains! Stop hiring FOs so we have enough capt upgrades! Oh my God! Now we don't have enough FOs! So stop the upgrades! But nobody wants to come here because our bonuses suck! What do we do!?!?"

Now we have a pool of plenty of pilots waiting to join compass. In the past they throttled upgrades and new hires because they couldn’t fill the seats. The only thing preventing us from being properly staffed in both seats now is greed. If this problem gets bad it will take months to catch up.

This will slow movement and drastically reduce quality of life and days off at any seniority level. If we don’t grieve it with the Union then nothing will change. We uphold our end of the contract and face discipline if we didn’t, they should uphold their end.

How would the union enforce this or better yet, how would they file a grievance? There is no defined numbers or cap in the CBA that says staffing has to be at XYZ numbers, the paragraph quoted has so much legal jargon it’s virtually meaningless and easy to get around for management. The company will always do what’s best for the business. As I’ve always said, it’s a business, the goal is to maximize labor for the lowest cost in the Regional airline industry. I know it kills morale and QOL but that’s just the way TSH and this sector of the industry works.

I’d say if half the pilots here are getting coverage trips over the off days they deserve, there’s a good argument. Very few of us bidding max days off are getting sub-80 hour lines.

That said, I’m sure the union is doing everything they can. And by that I mean they’re doing absolutely nothing except writing a hotline about how frustrated they are or signing another contract extension behind our backs

I'll just say what I've been saying since the old thread: As long as people keep picking up open time, the company will feel no need to hire more pilots.

Ya I’m pretty sure it’s just TSH ideology to always stay lean regardless of what pilots do. Especially since there’s looming threat of losing flying, might as well pinch pennies and have the least amount of pilots needed in case suddenly they’re fat by 400+.

Also openly telling pilots to not pick up open time can be considered a slow down and ALPA can be sued just like spirit did.
