Or just keep getting EGPWS alerts and using less accurate methods?
Think of SWA, the USAF and a few others who landed at the wrong airport. Or to the Air Canada plane that nearly beat Tenerife in SFO earlier this year. A simple FMS needle would have prevented them all.
I don't see why so many are averted to this practice.

Exactly what I'm talking about...it's a visual approach. If I am allowed to fly an approach with absolutely nothing in the box, why can't I load something just to glance down at to make sure I'm where I need to be? Don't accept the RNAV visual fine, accept a regular visual and then use it, I don't get the big deal. It's just better for situational awareness.

Why would you NOT wish to have all the information available to assist your situational awareness?

Bet this guy wishes he'd believed the instruments and not done a visual:

My first flight into El Paso I could have landed at Biggs field SOOOO easily.

Well, it’s official. 17 month upgrade time From DOH. The first few post-170 hires are upgrading. Amazing. At what other company can you upgrade so fast on an E175 in a domicile that doesn’t suck. This is amazing

There’s a couple on there that are 7-8 mo hires, and NH on the stand-by list. A few of those names are still hanging on the tail sitting in the right seat, but hey 1000hrs of 121/135 means you’re qualified!!

So if I have 550 hours of 135 turbine time, will that help me upgrade faster? lol
