Is Compass a Lateral Move?
#11
Im not quite sure what the deal is with Compass. A buddy of mine applied to them as soon as they opened the doors. He is a former ACA/Indy guy and spoke personally with the D/ops who was the same D/ops at ACA and only got a luke-warm response. So he applied elsewhere is now flying a 757 and Compass recently called him twice in one day begging him to interview. What gives?

these are the same people that think flying a smaller airplane at a higher cost per ASM is better than a bigger one at a lower ASM

It's in the top 5.
Seems like the consensus is that it's not a great move. This is what I had suspected. I have felt the same way. Had I gotten in on day 1 it would have been different. I applied as soon as they started accepting apps, but now it would be a step backwards.
If I still lived in MSP it'd probably be worth it, but given my current situation it seems to make sense to stick it out here.
Thanks for the opinions.

Flow thru's are a great selling point...unless you look at how many people actually flow thru somewhere. If any Eagle pilots want to chime in here, don't let me stop you...

In 2 yrs at AWAC on reserve you will get about 400-500 hours PIC on reserve. I do not know how fast you will be a line holder. Probably the only way to get to NWA will be through Pinn or CPS flow up. if you get on now you wil be FO for 8 months then capt and a line holder I would guess in a year or at least by the end of 08 when 36 acft are in. 180-200 CA. But in 2-3 years you will be able to flow up. Everyone is being typed, also.

Hi!
I would do one of three things:
1-Stay at AWAC 'til you get 1000 PIC jet, and then look.
2-Get your CRJ type rating, ensure you have 500 in type (don't need 500 PIC for most of these jobs) and go to Asia: India, Japan, China, etc. Get a $100K/year off the street captain job, with housing, car and driver and kid's school paid for. A buddy of mine at AWAC is going to China ASAP after his Capt type rating.
3-Leave if you get a CAREER job, such as FedEx/Delta/3M.
Good luck!

PS-I applied a number of times for AWAC. Could not get an interview.

They have a fleet of I believe 5 Gulfstreams. I have a cousin that is in management there. I asked her if she could help me out, her response was "HA! You would first have to join the Navy, get assigned to a specific squadron, THEN maybe you would get a shot at it." The CP is a Navy guy that hires guys from his old squadron. FWIW
